What are the genetic requirements for cloning a human?
Q. Hypothetically, if you wanted another you to be made in the distant future, what extent of genetic mapping is required? Would the results from this type of place suffice: https://www.23andme.com/ ???
Asked by Ogr87 - Fri Apr 24 12:52:03 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are about 10 million common single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in the human genome. Those 10 million common mutations, along with any other rare/chance mutations you may have, are the only things that make you different from any other human. Current technology only allows rapid (read "cheap") mapping of about 1 million SNPs, and that technology is improving. But if you want a clone you don't need to know your DNA sequence. You just need to physically implant your genome into an egg cell devoid of DNA. You only need your DNA sequence if you want to tweak your genes to make your clone better then you, but then it's not really a clone but an enhanced human.
