Cool Electricty or Magnetism experiments/projects for the 6th grade Science Fair?
Q. Hi, I have a 6th grade science fair coming up, and I'm doing it with my friend. We still need a project!!! We've been researching like heck but can't find like anything. It's due April 1st tooo!!! Please help!! Any ideas will be appreciated! Must be electricty or magnetism! thanks a bunch!

A. Build a coil gun! You just need a cylinder-shaped magnet, a tube that the magnet fits in loosely, and some thin coated wire. Wrap the tube with many turns of the thin wire. Place the magnet inside the tube and touch the ends of the wire to a battery. The magnet shoots out of the tube. For an experiment, see how more turns of wire change the distance you can shoot the magnet. good luck!

what's a good thing i can do a 6th grade science project on ?
Q. whats a good thing to do a 6th grade science project on that might get me 1st place? any ideas?
Asked by thuong h - Sun Nov 18 21:16:17 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you want first place, you better do a project that really interests you rather than one that gets handed to you. My best suggestion is to get a book on whatever phase of science interests you the most. Read (at least) until you get to something that makes you want to learn more or to something that makes you want to test what has been said.

Would anyone care to answer a 6th grade science question?
Q. Could you put the answer in 6th grade words please? Explain how the transfer of energy as seismic waves is related to the frequency and magnitude of earthquakes in a region.
Asked by Amy B - Sun Dec 7 22:05:24 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Frequency of earthquakes means how many earthquakes the area gets. Magnitude means how powerful the earthquake is. An important concept in geology (and physics) is that energy can not be created or destroyed. The energy to cause the earthquake is the radiogenic (radioactive) energy from the center of the Earth that causes the plates to move. The Earthquake releases seismic waves, which are absorbed into the Earth's crust as heat energy. Its the same concept as throwing a pebble into a pond, and watch the ripples from the "epicenter".

How to make a earthquake safe structure for 6th grade science.?
Q. My son has a science project to design and build an building that can withstand an earthquake. What would be a good material to use? Marshmallows, toothpicks, popcicle sticks, spaghetti, etc? The building has to be at least 20" tall.
Asked by bkpkskkk - Wed Nov 15 08:51:00 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You could use a saltine cracker box and use 4-6 springs glued onto the bottom and on the other end of the springs glue a wooden block. The wooden block would be buried in the soil as well as the springs. When an earthquake hits, the building moves on the springs instead of cracking and falling. By the way, that is an actual construction used in earthquake resistant buildings.

What is a good 6th grade science project to do?
Q. It should be something that not to stupid but not to smart, so not something that a scientist would do and not something a kindergardener could do. It has to be a good idea and a good thought, something that i could do a good test or project on. I want it to be something that has a good effect on teachers, something that makes the teachers think your at least a good student. It also can't be a stupid thing that the teachers think is a bad exaple of a good thought of hard worked on project, so it would look like u finished it in one night! I need a good thought!!!

Any ideas for my daughter's 6th grade science invention?
Q. We are having such a hard time thinking of something we can invent that meets the requirements. The teacher wants the invention to solve a common problem or annoyance (she gave the example of how she hates drying her hair with a hot hairdryer in the summer). She also wants a model created but only out of common household items. I think the idea is also to try to create something environmentally friendly. Any ideas you can give will be great. Thank you all for your help. The invention doesn't actually have to work, but she does have to have a model.

How to Make a Submarine for my 6th grade science project.?
Q. My teacher assigned me a project to do a submarine project for class. I need to make it float, then sink, & then float back up. HELP!!!
Asked by Andy M. - Sat Jan 24 11:40:19 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. YouTube saves lives. most of these models ultimately seem to do the same task. They float at first, then part of the submarine takes in some water. Once the the submarine sinks, the part of the submarine falls off because the rest of the submarine still wants to float.

A. The best thing to do is to go to your library> Read the encyclopedia entries on your topic, and check out some books about the topic. Read them all the way through. Then explain what you read in short paragraphs. Those paragraphs can go in your report. Be sure to include your bibliography.

Asked by Katarina B - Wed Jan 10 21:58:10 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You should write about the earth systems, like how water recycles back into the ecosystem after it rains. like it lands on mountains, goes in streams, collects into rivers, shoots into the ocean, and then evaporates and turns into rain and lands on more mountains, repeats. draw pictures, maps, and maybe do a diarama. show how the water recylces, keep it clean. how the icebergs are melting... make a report, (written, 4 pages) and an oral presentation (10 minutes) and maybe a powerpoint to coincide with it. if u dont like that idea, you could study underground sea creatures... from the different levels, identify species and classes and kingdoms, and go in depth on 3 different habitats that vary... and go into how they eat, where they… [cont.]

A. 1) How does surface area affect dissolving rate of alka-seltzer in water? (Whole tablet vs broken tablet vs powered tablet) 2) (If you have pets) Do cats/dogs prefer cold or warm water? Also, do cats/dogs prefer cold or warm food? (Be sure to keep the food type the same for each trial and for both warm and cold). 3) How much water does a rose need to survive? (Cut a rose at the bottom of the stem and put into a graduated cylinder and measure the amount of water that leaves each day. Minimize evaporation by putting plastic over top of cylinder and poking rose stem through into water).
