A. There are books you can get from the library or bookstore to help you build up your vocabulary. My son read Vocabulary Cartoons: SAT, both the I and II books and thought they were really good. He was studying for the ISEE at that time. While the SAT is a bit ahead for you, many of the words are words you should know for 8th grade. Vocabulary Cartoons: SAT Power Try looking for ISEE, SSAT or HSPT Vocabulary lists online. Here are a couple of ideas: The ISEE, SSAT and HSPT are for students applying to 9 - 12th grade at private schools. They typically take the test by January in 8th grade. Many of the words you should know, but you won't know all, since those applying to 10 - 12th take the same test. Good luck!

A. Thats pretty good. You could be a bit faster, cause my friend ran 16s last year. Ocassionally low 18s, but mostly low 17s and high 16s are about average times for a middle schoole hurdler.

A. There are many sites for this, like edhelper.com, but a better way is to do a search depending on the topic you're looking for. Go to Yahoo! and do a search for free vocabulary worksheets, and a bunch of sites will come up. Also check the websites for your child's textbook publishers, they sometimes offer online support. Sometimes the books also have tapes, CDs, and supplemental things like that, so again, check with the teachers. The teachers might also be able to give you workbooks they're not using, and some school districts have a warehouse where they keep books that they're not using anymore but that can still be useful, (especially for skills like math) that are free. A. WIsh I could do it! However, I'm not a Certified Teacher...yet. Ask the school for a few references from their "subsitute" teacher listing; most are fresh out of college, looking for a foot in the door. This way, your 8th grader will learn and someone can add that to their resume!

Q. Hi. My friend (who is an 8th grader) really likes a 7th grade boy. The boy really likes her. She wants to go out with him but "people will think she's a child molester." I told her to do what makes her happy- after all it's just a middle school relationship. They won't be making out, having sex, or going out to dinner. Besides, my older brother knows seniors dating Freshman.. that's 3 years a part and on a much more serious level. What do you think?

A. Try and find someone you like hanging out with. Ohhh. You should find someone you don't know and hang out with them. I know what you mean, and I can't really help. I know this guy and he's the guy everyone knows and laughs with and stuff, but he doesn't really have any friends. One time, for like a week or two, my friend and I started eating lunch with him cause we didn't really know him and he usually ate by himself. We're kinda friends now, but not super close.
