What activities or lessons can be done with my 2 preschoolers, using standard dominoes?
Q. They are good with letters and phonics, and can count to 10 well, fairly to 20. They are 2 little boys who love learning, and we are using the Montessori style (similar to learn-thru-play). Activities that can be done "on the road" are good, too. Any ideas?

A. Well my son is in Kindergarten and they use dominoes for learning addition. Like on the worksheets; they'll have say...4 dots on one side and 2 on the other. They write down 4 than 2 and count all the dots and get 6 of course. So it's a great way to learn how to do basic addition. Learning thru play is the best way to learn and especially; like putting addition facts, while singing; jingles are good ways to remember things. You could play I spy, to work on colors and objects. You could even play war with cards; to learn which number is bigger/greater..you could play a memory game; where you place the cards upside down and find the match. Good way to learn sharing/taking turns. You are definitely on the right track. They are… [cont.]

I need activities to do with the kids in my level one swim lessons.?
Q. I am teaching level one swim lessons. It is a class of three year old boys. Do have any suggestions of activities that I could do with them that would get them interested in the water, and putting their faces in it, along with entertaining them. I've never taught level one before, so this has never been a problem. Also what should I do with kids who cry and want to go to their moms/dads all the time?

A. Okay i know where your coming from i used to primarily teach level 3 and 4 classes but 1 and 2 are easy as pie. Something great to do with the level 2 is play red light green light(if your not familiar its where when you say green light they kick/swim towards you and red light they have to stop/tread water) for level one its all about keeping them entertained and not crying. Try lots of fun toys, you can have them do what i call spiderman along the wall(where they use their hands to shimmy along the wall in the water) and keep them active in what your doing or else they start to wander off lol. well good luck.

What are some good activities for barrel racing or western lessons?
Q. im teaching a little girl and would like to know some acitvites to keep her interested and to benefit her
Asked by walking on sunshine - Tue Oct 13 16:45:49 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There are tons of mounted games that are similar to barrel racing yet would provide enough variety to keep her interested. Of course you would have to adapt some of them for her age and skill level, but they would give you a place to start. You can also adapt these games to teach your student some of the basic skills such as riding without stirrups, without reins, etc.

What are some games and activities to do while I teach level 1 swim lessons?
Q. I teach a level 1 swim lesson class, which is a group of 3-5 year olds. What are some games that I can play with them that are different from the usual floating on your tummy and red light, green light? Please keep in mind that the kids are in 3 and 1/2 ft. waters and they can't touch the bottom of the pool...

A. You can play marco polo. (Just make sure you don't close your eyes) Tag in the water. You can bring one of those water balls and let them either play catch or you can throw it and let them race for it. There's plenty of water toys you can buy in a store. I once bought a set of water balls and a water Frisbee. You can just let them race and to make it fun you can have small rewards of lollipops or candy which they can eat at home if you don't want to supervise them while they eat (make sure their parents allow them to have candy). You can also have the easy reward of stickers. You can let them just splash around in the water...everyone I know finds that fun. If you can find another adult you can give them piggie-back rides and race to see… [cont.]

A. Think back to your own school experiences... What lessons did you enjoy the most? Sitting dictating notes or copying from the board? Or lessons which you got to explore and share what you were learning? And more importantly (at the time at least,) from which lessons could you remember what you learned? If a lesson doesn't engage students they are less likely to learn and pay attention, and the best way to avoid this is to make lessons interesting. Including activities which cater to different learning styles (eg, drawing, writing, watching, speaking, doing) will ensure that everyone gets something out of what you are teaching. If no one is interested in what you are teaching, what is the point of doing so?

Q. the kids are ages 3-6 and the only tools i have are noodles and kick boards...i already have them learning how to kick and arm strokes with both but that just doesnt fill up a 45 min class help? ideas?

A. kids are competive have challenges like who can kick the fastes acroos the pool, how can you blow bubbles underwater for (while hanging onto the side) or who has the biggest splash. the trick is to make everybody a winner so focus on something you know each on can do well so that they can earn some incouragement. games like simon says, and tag work as easy distractions. I don't know how long you have them per week but desenate 15 mins out of a lesson as game time where they get to choose but they have to listen and obey all pool rules to earn there play time.

A. I've been working with kids for ages. The key is to catch their attention. They absolutely love art and crafts activities. I used to replace the sand in the sand tray with coloured rice or dried pasta. There's cornflour dough as well (just cornflour and water) that makes an absolutely amazing texture when you place it on trays. You can write in it or pour it, etc. If you want to get a few kids together to do a big painting project together, try to get them to paint a huge rainbow on a big piece or paper. They also love songs and rhymes with actions and stories read with lots of passion! It's also quite interesting to put well known equipment in new places, i.e. drawing outside ( you can try rubbing surfaces on papers with wax crayons),… [cont.]

What are good activities/lessons for mentally handicapped students?
Q. I am a teacher in an elementary school, and we have a very unique student and situation. I cannot go into too much detail, but he is in first grade and I do not have an MH background. What do I need to do with this student daily? What are the most important lessons and concepts? He knows some sight words, but does not read them in context yet. He gets very confused with days of the week, and we go over them daily. I would love to hear some great ideas for lessons/activites that are important to do daily with a student like this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

A. Is he having on going assessments, or is he waiting for a IEP (Individual Education Plan). When working with people with developmental disabilities, is very challenging, but very rewarding. A few tips to remember; Talk calmly and quietly, as the student might startle easily with loud noises and voices. Encourage and support student, especially when making choices for themselves Give simple and clear instructions Set realistic goals and aims Be consistent and fair Don't make assumptions when the student is talking, this can cause frustration if they are trying to express their thoughts and feelings. Learn the students communication style Give regular feed back, especially to reinforce good behaviour Be mindful that they have bad days too,… [cont.]

what learning activities are good for 18month - 2 year old children?
Q. i am planning a lesson activity to be done with children who are 18months to 2years old. i was wondering if anyone had any ideas or good websites that would aide in planning a group activity that is age appropriate.
Asked by who made this - Thu Mar 8 17:34:38 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Circle time is a great one. Flannel board stories, rhymes, songs, anything with language is great. One favorite of that age group is "Five Little Monkeys", they love the repetition. Another option is to have them play red light/green light or some sort of physical activity (dance to "Shake Your Sillies Out" by Raffi). Just be creative, and as long as you are excited about it-they will be also. Good Luck!

Good Luck!
