How is the Bush administration responsible for the Lehman Brothers failure?
Q. I see where Obama blames the Bush Administration and some how (ties Mccain into this) for the Stock crisis. Can some one please explain to me how the administration or any other administration can be blamed for big business corporation for making extremely poor business decisions? Over speculation? And corruption? Please, educated answers only without the 4 letter words about any specific administrations name . . . its a general question about government and how it can affect business.

A. There is an independent federal agency called the Securities and Exchange Commission. The SEC was created by Congress, but is overseen on a day-to-day basis by the current presidential administration. The SEC's task is to regulate financial markets. It regulates them not by getting directly involved in running the markets, but by making sure that participants in financial markets honestly disclose information about their financial condition. It also makes sure that securities are not sold illegally. All of the investment banks currently in trouble participate in markets regulated by the SEC, and must generally follow the SEC's rules. The theory behind having the SEC is that if public companies have to disclose their operations,… [cont.]

How did corruption during the Harding administration get so widespread?
Q. ALSO: What was the various scandals and what were the effects they had on the administration?
Asked by Stef - Wed Oct 7 20:40:38 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The clouds of political scandal encircled and endangered the Warren G. Harding administration in 1923. Had he not died in San Francisco, on August 2, 1923, our 29th president may have faced impeachment, as he headed into his re-election campaign. The president surrounded himself with many distinguished men, such as Secretary of State Charles Evans Hughes, Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon, and Commerce Secretary Herbert Hoover, but he also brought to Washington a thoroughly unsavory lot of grafters: Interior Secretary Albert Fall sold for personal gain the nation's oil reserves at Wyoming's Teapot Dome. Thomas Miller, the alien property custodian, was convicted of accepting bribes. Jess Smith, bagman for the operation and personal aide to… [cont.]

What are some starting ideas for internships in public administration?
Q. I'm planning on entering an MPA program next fall. I know it's kind of a long way off, but I really want to do an internship after I complete my studies. The degree I will be getting is a Master's in Public Administration. I will probably choose the concentration in Nonprofit Administration. I'd really like to do my internship for a large NGO - preferably one with an international focus. I would also consider internships in the federal or state government if I still could have a public service focus. Where are some good places to start?

A. If you are in the U.S., get in touch with your local senators and representatives (state and federal) and government leaders. If you give them a really big campaign donation, that is even better.

What do you think of the new administration in Ohio who rode into office on a ethics platform?
Q. Within the first 6 months of the administration being in office the wife of the City of Columbus's mayor who the administration appointed to a high level post resigned for lying about reporting to her job. And now they have a student intern who had a personal computer stolen with records of state employees and state taxpayers on it that could lead to serious identity theft for thousands. The Strickland administration easily won office due to countless ethical violations by the previous Republican administration of Robert Taft. So now the problems already start. And why does a lowly student intern have the records of all state employees and taxpayers in his hands? Justin you just don't get it. The new administration made all these… [cont.]

A. I don't think that you are too bright. Coleman was elected in 1999 and is a republican. I do agree that his wife is worthless, and that he mispends millions on his stupid downtown projects. and the tapes regarding the intern... do you really think that those policies were in place for only the last 6 months. It has already been widely announced that interns and other authorized people have been bringing those tapes home since the change to the disks in 2001. I think that is one of the dumbest ideas that I have heard in a long time. Who would let sensitve information out of the office like that, and for what reason. What should I add to a Health Administration degree to make more money?
Q. What should I add to a Health Administration degree in order to make more money/broaden my potential for making more money? Is an MBA a good choice? Any licensing I can tack on to increase my earning potential? Are there other recommendations which will make me more money sooner??? I am open to pretty much any suggestions for this one.

A. An MBA will almost duplicate an MHA but without the hospital specialization of the MHA. An MBA is more versatile and has more utility if you're deciding on master's programs now. Take a look at your Health Administration program and see if there's an area that you particularly enjoyed or that you did exceptionally well in. Consider things like finance, epidemiology, statistics, research, law, whatever it was. Consider getting an MA or MS in that field instead of an MBA. For example, if you found your HA courses in finance to be the most interesting, you will find that holding an MS in Finance in addition to your HA makes you a popular candidate in the HMO world and likely a candidate for a CFO track position. Much depends upon your… [cont.]

Can a condo administration start renting apartments?
Q. I own a Condo in Florida and I recently noticed some trashy people moving in. I then heard that they are starting to rent apartments out I think that these people do not have to pay an Homeowners Administration fee and think that this maybe illegal and was wondering if anyone had an insight in this. I think that this maybe illegal cause of the fact they no one is paying the fee.
Asked by Steven C - Sun Mar 1 20:57:01 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, someone is paying the fee. The OWNER of the unit still has to pay the association fee, if the owner lives there or not. Just as he still has to pay the mortgage if he lives there or not. Now don't get me wrong. I don't like it one bit when condo owners rent out their units, because you get, as you say, trashy people. But it is their right to rent out their unit. There is nothing illegal about it at all.

Is the goal of the Obama Administration to take the USA off our war footing?
Q. Closing Gitmo. Taking detainees from military tribunals to private representation. Not allowing it to be called the "War on Terror". Investigating the CIA (again). Taking interrogations from the CIA and giving the responsibility to the FBI, while proposing a nebulous department in the White House to handle interrogations going forward. This administration has demoralized the CIA and weakened our defenses overall. Is the goal to weaken the USA and make us more susceptible to a terrorist attack? Who's side is this administration on?

Should the next President investigate and prosecute the Bush administration?
Q. I would really like this question answered by the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates. If there is evidence to point towards suspcion of a crime that has been committed, then that warrants an investigation. If the investigation does indeed find viable proof and a perpatrator, then that warrants prosecution of the perps. Regarding the large amount of evidence/suspicion/proof of the Bush administrations illegal dealings, should the next President investigate the current President? A. IF, and that's a big if, there is evidence to support criminal activity then of course this Administration should be investigated. But I suspect that won't happen. This Administration has been much smarter than Nixon's. They learned a valuable lesson from that debacle and have covered themselves with fall guys we've already seen take the heat, and designed a strong web of politicians-in-arms that protect each other's backs like nobody's business. I think unless there is clear evidence history alone will judge them. I don't think the country would stand for it unless there was some really damning evidence. They expect the next President and Congress to get busy doing something about the mess in the Middle East, not busy themselves… [cont.]

A. Accounting is its own major. information management deals with managing information (usually more computer oriented) and business admin is how to manage people in a for-profit setting. You can get an MBA with any undergraduate major.

What has the Bush administration done to help the lower class?
Q. So other than protecting our freedom, by taking away freedoms. And redefining what torture means. What has the Bush administration done for the lower class where they have actually benefited? My friend and I were asking this over the weekend, and seriously we could not think of a thing. So if you could just give me an example what Bush has done that's benefited lower income families that would be great. Could the stimulus check count? That really didn't seem to do anything right?

If I found business Administration to be a bore the first time should I even bother going at it again?
Q. I am at a crossroads here where I don't know whether to finish my bachelors in Business Administration degree (I have to take some classes over again including operations management) basically a year and a half left. Or to pursue another field. I found upper level business classes to be a total bore...I HATE accounting. Right now I am taking one chemistry class as I am thinking about getting a pharmacy tech certificate or an associates in nursing.
Asked by Charles - Thu Jan 24 17:55:01 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you have no passion whatever for a degree you're not going to do well at it. If Business is a "bore," find something else. I hated Accounting, also. Worst business courses ever. You should see if you can take the business classes you've taken and put them towards a Business minor to minimize waste. If you enjoy chemistry, you can put that to good use. Pharmacy and Nursing are high demand fields. Depending on where you live, they should be more useful than a business degree, anyway. One last piece of advice: business is a very elitest field. Corporations only hire top students. If you have passion for business, you won't be a top student.

Why does the Obama administration refuse to answer hard questions?
Q. Obama constantly cut off journalists with tough questions during the campaign. Now, Gibbs is on TV saying he won't go there or he is not looking back... I thought this was supposed to be the most open administration in history? Seems a lot changed once Obama got sworn in. Please make my kool-aid grape. idj---I would guess everything has a racial tint to you. Please stop looking through colored glasses.
Asked by MADDOG - Tue Feb 3 14:21:16 2009 - - 20 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Because the media loved him so much that no one dared to ask hard questions during the campaign. Like a spoiled child, he's used to being on a pedestal, proclaimed the savior of us all and put above the mudane and tawdry. IOW, he isn't asked hard questions because he's too good to be asked hard questions.
