Television (TV) is a widely used telecommunication medium for transmitting and receiving moving images, either monochromatic ("black and white") or color, usually accompanied by sound. "Television" may also refer specifically to a television set, television programming or television transmission. The word is derived from mixed Latin and Greek roots, meaning "far sight": Greek tele (τῆλε), far, and Latin visio, sight (from video, vis- to see, or to view in the first person). Commercially available since the late 1930s, the television set has become a common communications receiver in homes, businesses and institutions, particularly as a source of entertainment and news. Since the 1970s the availability of video cassettes, laserdiscs, DVDs and now Blu-ray Discs, have resulted in the television set frequently being used for viewing recorded as well as broadcast material. Although other forms such as closed-circuit television are in use, the most common usage of the medium is for broadcast television, which was modeled on the existing radio broadcasting systems developed in the 1920s, and uses high-powered radio-frequency transmitters to broadcast the television signal to individual TV receivers. Broadcast TV is typically disseminated via radio transmissions on designated channels in the 54–890 megahertz frequency band. Signals are now often transmitted with stereo and/or surround sound in many countries. Until the 2000s broadcast TV programs were generally recorded and transmitted as an analog signal, but in recent years public and commercial broadcasters have been progressively introducing digital television broadcasting technology. A standard television set comprises multiple internal electronic circuits, including those for receiving and decoding broadcast signals. A visual display device which lacks a tuner is properly called a monitor, rather than a television. A television system may use different technical standards such as digital television (DTV) and high-definition television (HDTV). Television systems are also used for surveillance, industrial process control, and guiding of weapons, in places where direct observation is difficult or dangerous. Amateur television (ham TV or ATV) is also used for experimentation, pleasure and public service events by amateur radio operators. Ham TV stations were on the air in many cities before commercial TV stations came on the air. From Wikipedia under the

How has television had a negative and postive affect on teens during the 20th Century, and how has it left the state of the family during the 21st century. Please go in depth, I'm really confused Asked by MadMan2000 - Tue May 26 11:29:23 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. With regards to advertisements it has made the teenage population crave things that they do not necessarily need or what. This goes back to the 1940's and 50's when t.v. was such a new thing. Teens soon turned to television as the prime source and entertainment and it became the topic of most conversation. Television turned the nation from a literary dominant society into a visually dominant society. It has had the ability to create panic because of its widespread reach and can inform. As the years have gone on, television has become a manipulative agent that can appear convicing and true, but it not. There are programs these days that do pose educational, but whether teens watch it or not is truly unknown for those who do watch it won't… [cont.] Answered by secondxstrx2xright - Tue May 26 14:29:54 2009 How do you become a television producer? Q. I was wondering how does someone become a television producer? What kind of education do you need? Experience? Specifically, if you want to work for major networks like CBS, ABC or NBC and handle their primetime or daytime division or start your own production company. What advice would you give to help someone accumulate the proper experience and skills? And prime themselves for a career in television production? Thank you in advance. Asked by Jules4 - Tue Mar 10 20:43:27 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Two words - work experience! There are no formal qualifications for being a TV Producer, and it's not an easy ride to get there... you can't take a degree in it and expect to get a job straight away, it takes many mane years of hard work. It is useful to learn about the media - read magazines and broadcasting and keep up to date with what is being commisioned and broadcast, what is popular etc. When you apply for your first jobs they will be entry level, intern type jobs - office assistant, runner - that type of thing. and then you just have to learn - shadow people, ask for work experience with people you admire and gradually work your way up. you'll be a researcher for a long time, then an associate producer and finally, if you're… [cont.] Answered by emmanorrey - Tue Mar 17 17:29:43 2009 How many television cable service providers are available in the Philippines?
Q. I want to be able to keep up with ESPN and the sports in the USA. I just seem to get TURBO, Solar Sports and some basketball games from the past. Television seems to be lacking something here. Asked by BALONEY - Sat Dec 12 20:44:03 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. for the entire Philippines it is more than a handful, you can inquire from National Telecommunications Commission for the exact distribution of franchise. However in Metro Manila, there is Skycable, Global Destiny, Dream Satellite, and Cignal Direct Satellite which is owned by PLDT. There could be more but these are the known ones. I believe Destiny has ESPN. Answered by chinaman - Sun Dec 13 11:30:51 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Television" Quotes regarding Television This theme article needs cleanup.
