A mathematical notation is a system of symbolic representations of mathematical objects and ideas. Mathematical notations are used in mathematics and the physical sciences, engineering and economics. Mathematical notations include relatively simple symbolic representations, such as numbers 1 and 2, function symbols sin and +; conceptual symbols, such as lim, dy/dx, equations and variables; and complex diagrammatic notations such as Penrose graphical notation and Coxeter-Dynkin diagrams. From Google News Search: "Mathematical notation" what are the importance of these following mathematical concepts to physics: exponent, scientific notation? Q. what are the importance of these following mathematical concepts to physics: exponent, scientific notation? Asked by C@thy m@e - Sun Jun 24 18:30:17 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. exponents are used commonly as the way the way some of the equations look like after they're derived... However in physics it's common to use scientific notation since different equations can yield very large numbers. For example c^2 in E=mc^2 is around 9 x 10^10 m/s or without scientific notation it's about 90,000,000,000. Using scientific notation is a short hand method of expressing large numbers, it also comes in handy when trying to save space when trying to solve physics equations. Q. Hey everyone! Anyone knows a good typesetting software that allows you to create/type or edit mathematical expressions/notations for authoring or publishing a mathematical text. You know the kind of software that helps you to create those notations that Microsoft Word doesn t. If any of you guys know, please tell me. Thanks. PS. I am not asking for a software that is used to solve mathematical problems e.g. Mathematica. As I mentioned above, a software that is used for typesetting mathematical expressions Asked by Eltromeche E - Thu Jun 21 09:21:30 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. There is really only one professional-level typesetting scheme: LaTeX (or its predecessor/basis, TeX). See for more information. To use LaTeX, I'd suggest you download MiKTeX: Install that first (follow the instructions, should be simple). In order to use it properly, you need an editor. I suggest you try WinEdt: Should also be easy to install. That should get you started. There are many guides on how to use LaTeX, just google whatever it is you're looking for. Maybe start with: or: or: The first is a pdf, the second is a nice html site, the third is a bit harder to navigate but should be fine. Have fun!
