Aluminum Hydroxide --> Aluminum is +3, Hydroxide is OH- The chemical formula must be neutral, so we need 3 of the hydroxides to balance out the +3 on the Al: Al(OH)3 ---> For polyatomic ions, use parentheses when more than 1 are present Cesium Phosphate ---> Cs is +1 and Phosphate is PO4^-3 You will need 3 Cs to balance the -3 in Phosphate: Cs3PO4 When you have… [cont.]

Need Chemistry help - Balancing chemical equations?
Q. So I have this one to do for homework, and I got the formula down right, but balancing it is proving to be difficult. Aluminum nitrate reacts with sodium hydroxide to produce aluminum hydroxide and sodium nitrate. Al(no3)3 + NaOH -> Al(OH)3 + NaNO3 Thanks in advance
Asked by Matthew - Sun Mar 1 00:41:28 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Your balanced equation is this: Al(NO3)3 + 3NaOH -> Al(OH)3 + 3NaNO3 Since there are three hydroxide ions in Al(OH)3, you need to start with three OH- ions. You would need 3 NaOH. If you actually did this, it would be more likely to produce a precipitate that dissolved as more NaOH was added. The reaction is as follows: Al(NO3)3(aq) + 4NaOH(aq) --> 4Na+ + Al(OH)4^- + 3NO3^- or, the net ionic equation is Al^3+ + 4OH- --> Al(OH)4^-

Common names, chemical names, formulas, importance. Knowledgeable chemists needed! :)?
Q. I need several things for my chemistry class... Provide what you can, please! I need the common name for- -carbonic acid -zinc -aluminum -nitric acid I need the chemical name for- -Fool's gold/pyrite -bleach -acetylsalicylic acid/aspirin I need the Importance/Uses of- -Wood alcohol/Methyl alcohol -Magnesium hydroxide/milk of magnesium -carbonic acid ANY help with any of the needed names is fine, thanks! :)

A. Common name? Those are pretty much it. Carbonic acid happens to be carbon dioxide dissolved in water, but I don't think that counts. The chemical name for fool's gold is iron disulfide, FeS2. The chemical name for bleach is sodium hypochlorite, NaOCl. The chemical name for aspirin is acetylsalicylic acid, like you said, formula C9H8O4 or structurally C6H4(OCOCH3)COOH. Methanol, CH3OH, or wood alcohol or methyl alcohol, is used as an antifreeze, solvent, or fuel. Milk of magnesia (not magnesium) is a laxative used to treat constipation and can also be used to relieve heartburn and indigestion. I know you've seen the commercials for this stuff. Carbonic acid is, again, carbon dioxide in water, which is basically soda.

Please help: lewis structures, balancing chemical equations, VSEPR theory.?
Q. I need help with these problems on my chemistry review! I know it's alot, but please do whatever u can the best u can. I typed all of the numbers regular size for ex. O2. They are supposed to be smaller and lower, (idk what u call it I was thinkin exponents but exponents are in the upper right hand corner but anyway u know what I mean). Please bare with me! Especially on the lewis structures. Draw Lewis Structures for each of the following molecules: O2 N2 CO SO2 Draw a Lewis structure for each of the following, and then use VSEPR theory to predict the molecular geometry of each: SCl2 PI3 CL2O NH2CL SiCl3Br ONCl Write formulas for each of the following compounds: Potassium Hydroxide Calcium Nitrate Sodium Carbonate Carbon… [cont.]
