What is the chemical formula for: Potassium Hydrogen Carbonate?
Q. What does the ite ending mean in a name? ie ammonium sulfite. What do the prefixes per, bi, hypo mean? What element is acetate? And also is cyanide an element? If so what atomic number on the PT?

A. okayy. so potassium hydrogen carbonate is KHCO3 ---> hydrogen carbonate is bicarbonate --- HCO3. -the ite ending means that one oxygen was removed from the polyatomic ion. -per means adding one oxygen - hypo means removing 2 oxygen atoms - bi means a hydrogen infront of the ion. && acetate is NOT an element ---> its C2H3O2 && cyande is an ion !!! --> CN with a negative one charge.

A. (NH4)2HPO4 Hg2S SiO2 Na2SO3 Al(HSO4)3 NCl3 HBr HBrO2 HBrO4 KHS numbers are subscripts. rhsaunders have some mistakes. hydrobromic acid is the same as hydrogen bromide, but not as same as hypobromic acid.

A. There's that caps lock key again. (NH4)2SO4 AlPO4 Pb(NO3)2 CoSe Cu(HCO3)2 FeO LiCN Pb(SO3)2 What about writing formulas from names are you having trouble with? Write the symbol of the first element (or ion). Look up the oxidation number. If there is a Roman numeral, it tells you the oxidation state of the metal. Then write the formula of the anion. Crisscross the oxidation numbers to get the subscripts. Good luck. === Follow up === Be aware that sulfite is the SO3^2- anion. PbS2 is lead (IV) sulfide.
