what is the difference between AP and college prep?
Q. In an AP class, you get college credit, right? But what about College Prep? does that give you college credit as well?
Asked by Yay! - Mon Jan 7 01:35:08 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I believe AP classes are better than College Prep. Their harder and not as easy. So like AP classes gives you college credits and I believe College Prep doesn't. I think so. I asked my guidance council about this once.

How do I nail an interview for a college prep program?
Q. I'm fifteen years old and I tried to get into a college prep program last year but unfortunately I didn't make it. I'm trying again this year and I'm terrified. Can someone give me advice on how to answer some questions that you think will be asked or anything that you think is important for me to know? Thanks

A. You have a better idea of anywhere here since you did it last year. Maybe you should relax and let your true personality shine thru. You should answer the questions honestly.

Is going to a college prep high school really more beneficial then a normal high school?
Q. Well, Im beginning high school next year and my mom is thinking about sending me to a college prep school. The only problem is I dont want to leave all the friends I have now (well, not very many because Im not a dirty little skank like everyone else, but a few of my friends, :]) unless I know it will really be worth it. So, normal high school vs. college prep high school? Any past experience? Thankss :]

A. it rlly makes no difference to be honest. normal high school offers AP [advance placement] courses or IB courses that are college-level. i know people who have gone to normal high schools and have ended up in harvard, cornell and other prestigious colleges. it's your choice don't let your mom decide.

Q. What is a good way of convincing my parents to allow me to go to boarding school? Also, suggestions on a great college prep school (In the U.S.)?

A. You should probably consider your parents' budget first because that will most likely dictate where you end up going. Culver Academy in Indiana is really prestigious and has a beautiful campus. They have a great summer program so you could test it out before committing to four years there.

Difference between college prep courses and AP courses?
Q. My college admission to SJSU says "We will review all final transcripts to verify that you have maintained your eligibility in accordance with CSU admission standards, including the completion of your senior year with "C-" or better grades in all of your college prep courses." I googled up 'college prep courses' and it said college prep courses were classified as regular classes, not AP or honors. Is that correct? Because I got a D+ in AP Calculus only in my first semester. Thanks.
Asked by BlueTiger - Wed Jul 8 04:49:29 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Generally speaking, AP classes are considered as "college prep" courses. Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and honors classes are all designed to prepare students for college level work. Courses that would be considered non-college prep classes would be physical education, art, music, autoshop, metalshop, etc. Basically, college prep classes are academic classes that you take to prepare you for university. If you are concerned about SJSU's policy on college prep courses, I suggest you contact the admissions office directly. Hope this helps!

Do non credit college prep courses lower your gpa?
Q. If i took 4 classes in a community college 2 in which are prep classes and equal zero college credits, will the grades go towards my gpa? Actually i should say effect your GPA, as a good grade could raise it and a bad grade could lower it?
Asked by countonme99 - Fri Mar 28 03:59:14 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Nope. If they are prep classes, they are treated the same as high school classes - needed to get in, but do not count toward accomplishing a degree.

How can I help my children with their school and college prep?
Q. My oldest starts the big K next week (GULP)!!! I know lots of good parents who have children with no self motivation and who don't understand the importance of an education...How can I start now instilling the importance of school without micromanaging my child (I have an issue with that too). I want to be helpful, but not controlling. Also, how can I start preparing for college. I see so many kids floundering through high school and parents resigning themselves to being happy with a C. Don't get me wrong, if a C is the best he or she can do we'll celebrate and each child is different. I don't need them to be the best...I want them to be the best they can be. PS...I've already told my child that teachers are the most important… [cont.]

A. I think a parent showing genuine interest in their child's education really helps. If the parent doesn't care, why should the child? My dad would read a story to me every night when I was younger and I really think that helped me to become a better reader and become interested and excited about reading. When I did homework he would always help out if I asked him to and when I was done he would check it over and try to help me out on questions I had gotten wrong. My parents would also reward us for good grades or improving our grades. That was our allowance. When your child gets older, middle school and high school, then you can start asking them what they want to do in the future, what their goals are. For right now though, just show an… [cont.]

Why come Tim Duncan comes off as a college prep personality?
Q. Come on Tim Duncan loosing up man! Don't look so non-expressive. Show that you have some life in you. LOL If Tim Duncan would be more loud in personality, he'd get more recognition as an NBA great, but his personality is the only thing stopping him. Not too many people will remember Tim Duncan years from after he retires because he's so damn quiet. Do you agree? If he was yelling, pumping his fist like Kevin Garnett, the basketball world would love him more. Kobe Bryant does it, see where it gets him. Tim Duncan should do the same.

A. Tim Duncan doesn't pump his fist like Kobe and he as the same amount of rings, 3 finals MVP, and a two time MVP. (Kobe only has 1 mvp) Tim Duncan doesn't pump his fist like KG and yet he still has more rings than KG.

A. Absolutely you will be! There aren't only "cream of the crop" colleges. There are so many out there that are definitely really good academically with wonderfully educational and life-lesson programs. Don't even worry about it, if you can't get into college what about all those people who've been taking applied classes throughout high school? And getting bad grades in those classes? You'll be fine!

What's a good name for a college prep school for my story?
Q. I'm suprised I can't think of anything (I go to col. prep. school myself) but I am writing a story and I need help on choosing the prper name for a school. In the story, the school is extremely elite, only the richest of the richest go there. Pretty much everyone there is spoiled and mean, so I want a name that kind of plays off of that. I was thinking of Kingswitch, but my friend said that was a tad bit too spooky. Any ideas?
