A. Long distance education courses will work with you online and through the mail. There are hundreds available if you want them to grade your work and get back to you. You did not say what level of math programs you are interested in ... but for elementary school I would recommend the Excel program( which is offered as credits through various long distance education universities ( If you are trying to hone your skills at the college level, most caculators have web sites that not only help you use the calculator but also teach you the fundamentals of all operations. TI-89 has all sorts of web support groups. There a a myriad of support groups for all higher math. Go to Google and type math courses. Join a math communtiy. Or sign up… [cont.]

Are correspondence schools like Penn Foster (Education Direct) legitimate schools?
Q. They say they are accredited, and that's not what I'm asking. I want to know if a degree from these types of schools carries as much weight as from a regular, four year college in the eyes of a potential employer.

A. I am attending penn foster for the assoc. degree in veterinary technology. Before I enrolled in the school, I went around my city and asked if they would hire me after I recieved my degree. They told me yes. Penn Foster is legit, accredited and in good standing with the BBB. All the employers I have had interviews with have heard of Penn Foster and are very impressed with the college. The degrees are legit and many people that graduated there have received a job with there degree.

Good online or correspondence schools?
Q. You don't need to hear my sob story but I need a cheep (less than $2000 per year) high school (I need to keep my 9-5 so I can sleep indoors and eat). The ones I have found are either for Americans only (I am Canadian) or else have video classes during the day. Any suggestions would be helpfull. God bless.

A. K12 is an amazing, rich and rigorous curriculum. It has recently opened its "International Academy." You can enroll part time ($375 per semester, per course) and in your budget take two or three courses per year. It might not be ideal, but you may find it amazing enough to make it work. Q. i am undergraduate, and currently working in a callcenter company. I want to finish my college, so I'm considering a correspondence school. Is it okay?

A. What you can do is see if your college offers a correspondence program, or you can take some classes through correspondence through your college. I do not recommend you try any online schools because they are expensive and you will probably get a worhless piece of paper. Online scools are a joke to most employers.

Can you take the CLA exam if you get a certificate through a correspondence school?
Q. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities, 5 years of experience as a File Clerk in a law firm, and I am studying Paralegal studies through Stratford Career Institute (which is a correspondence school (through the mail)). I know that the NALA has specific requirements for those people who can take the CLA exam. Would I be able to take the CLA exam after I get my certificate through Stratford? To the "Star" person, NO, I am NOT talking about becoming a LAWYER. You don't get a Juris Doctor to become a Paralegal. You get a certificate. You don't take the bar exam to become a Paralegal. You take the bar exam to become a lawyer. If you don't know for sure of what I am talking about, then don't answer. PS: NALA = National… [cont.]

A. No, if this paralegal studies course doesn't award you a Juris Doctor. Why not sign up for a law school course - that can also be done through correspondence school. Then, you first need to take the First Year Law Student's Examination (FYLSE), also called the "Baby Bar." After you have done that, and passed, you can continue the law school correspondence and then after 4 years, take the California Bar Exam. More information can be found at the link below:

How can I find what correspondence school I received credit from in 1990?
Q. A company performing a background check on me for employment called me today to tell me I do not have a HS diploma. I graduated in 1990 and had to get an elective credit through a correspondence school. Which I did. They never sent the paperwork to the High School. I have no clue who I went through back then, but choices were slim. Does anyone have any idea how the heck I can find this info? I will not get this job if I dont have a diploma. I had no clue this even happened and have never had this problem in the past 17 years.

A. Did you check with your high school to see if they had any information about you attending the school? They could have the name in their file. How did you find out about the school? Who referred you? Did you call the guidance counselors at the high school? They may know the school if they frequently referred students to that school. Do you have any paperwork at all with the name of the school?

Is a diploma from a credible correspondence school as good as a diploma from an ordinary school?

A. I, personally, have not gone to a correspondence school but I have had friends do it with poor results. A credible correspondence school - unless it is part of a university system - is not as good as a diploma from an 'ordinary' or traditional school as far as marketable value in society. While the graduate may be superior in all respects to someone from the ordinary school (traditional school) except in the diploma area employers and other schools (correspondence or otherwise) will most likely choose the person with the traditional diploma. Sometimes and probably most times, but not always, the curriculum and instruction in a traditional school is much, much, much more rigorous than a correspondence school. If you can prove the rigor… [cont.]

Do you keep your credits that you earned if you don't finish correspondence school ?
Q. Back in 2000 I started taking High School classes with a correspondence school (ICS) but I never finished taking all of them. Now that I have the time I want to finsh gettting my diploma but I want to know if I have lost all of those credits or not?
Asked by justaskme - Sat Sep 30 07:29:06 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. That would depend on the organization you took the course through. You would need to contact them and explain your situation. Ask them if they would still allow you to do this and whether you would have to start from scratch or if you could pick up where you left off. Did you actually complete some courses? If it is considered one course, then probably you would have to start over. If there were individual courses within that and you finished some of them, you might be able to pick up where you left off.
