Short-Term Spiritual Guidance A Contemporary Approach to a Classic Discipline Creative Pastoral Care and Counseling
Bidwell's book represents a significant departure from most contemporary writing about spiritual direction. While most writers focus on long-term relationships of guidance, and specifically envision long listening sessions, Bidwell changes focus. Spiritual direction, he insists, typically requires intervention in a specific crisis or situation or question, is not formal, lasts fewer than five sessions, and must be actively and intentionally focused on the person's growth. Bidwell's work shows what spiritual directors can learn from the short-term therapy model, especially about enabling people briefly but effectively to "learn to listen on their own and with others for God's presence." Focusing on how God is already active in the directed's life allows the participants to identify God's action and respond in ways that collaborate with that identified movement of the Spirit. The chapters include introduction to the foundations of spiritual direction as well as to specific direction techniques; they also address such topics as discernment, direction for couples and families, group direction, and discerning vocation.

The Biblical Basis of Christian Counseling for People Helpers
Relating the Basic Teachings of Scripture to People's Problems by Gary R. Collins Virtually anyone with a desire to help others can be a people helper, says noted Christian psychologist Dr. Gary Collins, but often those Christians who feel most called to counsel are unsure of how to use the Bible to ease another person's problems. The Biblical Basis of Christian Counseling for People Helpers is a comprehensive guide for anyone who wants to be effective in helping others. This book guides you in a practical and working knowledge of Scripture and the basics of the Christian faith - the core of what any christian needs to know to be a people helper. "Most of the problems we encounter in counseling are far too diverse and complex to be solved by quoting a Bible verse or by applying some pat biblical formula," writes Dr. Collins. "But certainly the Bible, God's revelation, gives a number of specific directions and many clear principles that can give us a framework for counseling..." If you need expert guidance in how to best guide others, turn to Gary Collins, and let this book equip you to serve faithfully as a Christian people helper. A. HR is a field of climbing the ladder without any need for advanced educational credentials. I would suggest you find a job in the HR area and work your way up. Get your employer to pay for your educational expenses while you're at it. Otherwise, simply having a masters without any experience will still only qualify you for entry level HR work.
