In E=MC2, I have a question re the C squared component.?
Q. In a particle accelerator, at what speed are the particles accelerating and does that have anything at all to do with the equation?
Asked by x x - Wed Nov 4 19:07:57 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. In the Large Hadron Collider, the accelerated protons have a Lorentz factor of about 7,500 and move at about 99.9991% of the speed of light. The speed would not be directly related to the conversion formula. .

A. E=mc is a version of Einstein's famous Relativity equation. E - energy m - mass c - speed of light Specifically, it means that Energy is equal to Mass times the speed of light squared. In essence, it states that there is an equivalence between mass and energy. This simple statement has many profound implications... such as no object with mass can ever go faster than the speed of light.

what are the units for measuring the energy from the equation e=mc2?
Q. when u plug in all the numbers in for the equation .Then you get the answer what units do they use: are they using, pounds, kilograms ,radiation. What do they use!
Asked by Foxbat - Mon Nov 24 16:25:50 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can use any system of units you please: In mks, energy is in joules, mass in kg, and speed in m/s. In natural units, energy is in planck energies--sqrt (hc^5/G), mass is in planck masses--sqrt (hc/G), and the speed of light is itself the planck unit of velocity (ie, c=1), so the equation is simply E=m. You could probably come up with a dozen other systems.

I know that E=MC2 means the energy is equal to the blah blah blah but what does the definition actually mean?
Q. E=MC2 means the energy is equal to the mass x the speed of light 2... now what does THAT actually mean?
Asked by Shorty. - Tue Mar 20 07:31:31 2007 - - 11 Answers - 1 Comments

A. According to NASA In essence, it states that there is an equivalence between mass and energy. This simple statement has many profound implications... such as no object with mass can ever go faster than the speed of light! this equation is what is used to explain the special theory of relativity. It shows the relationship between energy and matter. So it shows that people cannot travel faster than the speed of light. It also tells you how if you convert matter into energy you get a very powerful explosion. Dont you wonder why you need uranium and plutonium? They are very HEAVY/ LARGE molecular/atomic compounds. By using these really BIG compounds they result in a lot more energy from fission.

Why did Einstein put a square on the speed of light in E=mc2?
Q. I think because he didn't have an answer. How can one say that by acquiring a speed equivalent to c^2 can change the matter into energy. I ean where is the proof? I know the equations.

How does e=mc2 relate to lighting a match?
Q. 10 points for clear and good answer.
Asked by Mel - Sun Feb 1 01:07:56 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. In fact it does obey that equation. The mass of the match plus all gasses released is reduced by the energy released lighting the match. The match plus all associated gasses released would weigh lighter by a very small amount after losing chemical energy to being lit. If you could measure the energy released you could calculate the mass that was lost to the release of energy. The same goes for say, a car battery: It weights a tint it more or less depending on whether it is charged or not. the energy that goes into the battery actually does add mass to it, or to the match or anything else. A mass has rest energy mc^2. If somehow you manage to increase the rest energy, say by adding chemical energy, then you also must increase the rest… [cont.]

Asked by unknown - Tue Sep 22 13:30:47 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. While I'm sure this is a joke i'm going to answer it anyway... Light travels as both a wave and a particle, that we physicists call a photon (per the Wave-particle Duality) these things travel at the speed of light. Light is something we can see, it reflects from an object, into your eye which then relays the message to your brain - i.e. you see the object. Darkness is the absence of light - therefore, there are no electromagnetic waves/photons. Now this next part depends where you stand on physical debate. If you believe Darkness to be a physical quantity then its speed is equal to the rate at which light becomes absent, i.e. so darkness has a reverse velocity of light (minus the velocity of light) as far as speed is concerned it is… [cont.]

How do you solve for "C" in E=MC2?
Q. In my math test, there was a question where is says solve for "c", meaning make c= something. it says e=mc2, and tells me to solve for c. does anyone have an answer?
Asked by Andrew V - Mon Jan 26 14:16:17 2009 - - 20 Answers - 0 Comments

A. E=mc2 --> square root (E / M) = C Ok That might not make scene but I walk you through it. What there asking you to do is get C by itself. So first divide both sides by m. So now you left with E divided by m = c squared. Now take both sides and square root them and you are left with the square root of E divided my M = C. Hope that makes scene with the small walk through.

How E=mc2 is related to the big bang theory?
Q. How E=mc2 is related to the big bang theory?
Asked by evening_go_jogging - Mon Sep 17 05:37:17 2007 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Very loosely. The "big bang" isn't really as solid as many think. But relativity is. So, astrophysicists try to graft all kinds of jerry-rigged ideas to the big bang to make it fit with relativistic observations. Like "inflation", "dark matter", "dark energy", and so on. The only REAL relation of E=MC^2 to the big bang is the red shift.

Considering Einstein's famous equation, E = mc2, which of the following statements is true?
Q. 1. A small amount of mass can be turned into a large amount of energy. 2.One kilogram of mass represents 1 joule of energy. 3.You can make mass into energy if you can accelerate the mass to the speed of light. 4.It takes a large amount of mass to produce a small amount of energy. 5.Mass can be turned into energy, but energy cannot be turned back into mass.
Asked by astrocastro1 - Sun Sep 14 03:44:38 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. #1 is the best answer given. But it is a subjective interpretation of the famous equation. What does "small" amount of mass mean? What does "large" amount of energy mean? E=mc^2 allows you to calculate the energy equivalence of a given quantity of matter. You can also calculate the mass equivalence of a given quantity of energy, by doing some algebra on the original equation, and getting m=E/c^2. It's that simple. A better choice would have been: Energy and matter are equivalent and interconvertible.
