In mathematics, the word expression is a term for any well-formed combination of mathematical symbols. An algebraic expression is only a phrase, not a whole sentence, so it cannot contain an equality sign (=). For example,
is an expression, while
is an equation but not an expression. Neither is
an expression because the parentheses are not balanced. Being an expression is a syntactic concept – the meaning of the variables is irrelevant, but different fields have different notions of validity. See formal language for how expressions are constructed, and formal semantics for meaning. From Wikipedia under the

Is it like Mathematics, with one correct sum? Is it like Poetry, with Infinite Expressions Asked by Orpheus Rising - Mon Dec 31 21:23:39 2007 - - 28 Answers - 0 Comments A. i like this! put this in the philosophy section too! the truth is the truth. it is definite. it exists outside the realm of our perception, yet, is not completely excluded from it. the truth is unbiased, plain and simple. it is independent of what we perceive it to be, and it does not change. considering all this, i guess you could say that truth is indeed like Mathematics. Our perception of the truth, on the other hand, is like poetry...with infinite expressions. ~Rx~ Answered by Spurious - Mon Dec 31 21:36:58 2007 Need help with a radical (mathematics) question!? Q. I absolutely love math, but there are a few simple things I don't know. While doing my cumulative review, I got stumped on a question. I'm not "taking the easy way out", I've got 7 out of 9 questions done.. Could someone show me how to do it? Here's the question: Which expression is equivalent to 7 90 ? (1) 16 10 (2) 21 10 (3) 70 9 (4) 630 Asked by Caiteee - Tue May 12 19:43:52 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. 7 90 = 7 9 * 10 = 21 10 So the answer is (2). unknown ue, 29 Sep 2009 18:35:07 GM If we can rewrite 50 101 and make 100 appear into the . expression. , we can just make a prediction and say that that 100 represents the hundredth number. Then, we can simply replace 100 by n and n will represent the nth number. It is not a complete proof. You just make a sound and logical conclusion based on a pattern 50 101 = (100/2) 101 = (100/2) (100 + 1) If we substitute 100 for n, the formula we get is ... Copyright 2008.
