Name a famous book or movie where the character uses drugs or drinks alcohol to forget about his/her problems?
Q. describe the situation the character was in
Asked by princess - Fri Jul 31 21:16:24 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. A very famous and controversial book is Go Ask Alice. Supposedly a diary ( though many, many people disagree) a regular run-of-the-mill teenager who moves to a new town has many problems and becomes isolated. In the summer she goes to her old town where she tries LSD at a party. She goes into a down spiral of drugs and well I guess the rest writes itself out. Plus, I don't want to spoil the ending. It doesn't have a sympathetic look, but it's a good book.

A famous philo said "I perceive that all the problems of a man could be solved if he would sit in a room all..
Q. ...alone and learn to be still" Do you agree?
Asked by amabO - Fri Oct 26 21:05:53 2007 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Not exactly... I'd agree if he phrased it differently to imply that man could prevent having any kind of problem by sitting in a room alone and learning to be still. His problems can be solved if he allows his mind to sit in a room and stay still. That reminds me of the way the lecturer in a session on meditation I attended described the human: "a monkey which is drunk, and drugged, and has just been stung on the leg by a scorpion."

The famous math problem of the trains?
Q. You know that math problem about the two trains? The one that all TV shows use when talking about math? Well, I'm curious as to how you would solve it. Here's one version: Two trains are a mile and a half apart. Train A is traveling at 3/4 the speed of train B. They'll collide in 4 and a half minutes. How fast is each train going? It's not a HW question, I'm really honestly curious. Can someone give me an idea as to how I would solve it?
Asked by Jazzy - Mon Oct 6 22:57:08 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. First, distance traveled is velocity * time. It is customary to write this equation as: s = v * t In this case the distance traveled is the sum of trains moving at different speeds: s = v * t + v1 * t We know the distance traveled is 1.5 miles: 1.5 = v * t + v1 * t And we know the second train moves 3/4 the speed of the first: 1.5 = v * t + v * t * 3/4 And we know t = 4.5 1.5 = 4.5 * v + 4.5 * 3/4 * v 1.5 = 4.5 * v + 3.375 * v 1.5 = 7.875 * v 1.5 / 7.875 = v 0.19047619 = v This means train 1 is moving at .19047619 miles per minute. That isn't very compelling. Since there are 60 minutes in an hour, multiply 60 by .19047619 to get 11.43 miles per hour. Train 2 moves at 3/4 speed, or 8.57 miles per hour. Let's see if… [cont.]

Is there a problem in using famous music in movie?
Q. Is there any problem if I use music of Moby and other artists in the movies without officeal permission? But still mention that they are the composers and so on...
Asked by Kote Makharadze - Mon Jul 27 05:14:10 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes, it violates copyright law. If you're in the US, go to the Harry Fox Agency. (harryfox.com) You can fill out the paperwork and pay the fees there to do what you want. And they have a lot of info on how include music in things legally, get licensing, and things in general. Your other option is to find what is called "royalty free" music, which you can include in anything once you buy it.

A. What you'll essentially be doing is placing someone else's copyrighted material (e.g. a photograph, a sketch) of another person's likeness -- so, yes, you will want to get some consultation before proceeding. Contact an IP (intellectual property) attorney about this matter. Best of luck to you!
