How do you maintain your formulas when copying and pasting form one window to another with excel?
Q. In excel I'm trying to move a huge group of cells to another excel window, but i want to keep the formulas that are in the cells, when i try copying and pasting it only moves the values that are results from the formulas. I don't want to have to retype all the formulas for this new workbook, because I'm trying to move about six different parts of different workbooks into one that has everything i need. Any ideas?

How do you find molecular formulas from empirical formulas in chemistry?
Q. I have the empirical formulas all figured out. Now I need to find the molecular formula. The molar mass is given. Here's the whole question in case it helps someone explain it better: What is the molecular formula of a comound that is 5.93% H and 94.07% O, with a molar mass of 34.015 g? Like I said, I am up to the empirical formula but I don't know where to go from there. Thanks in advance!
Asked by GhostWriter - Sat Jun 21 18:55:12 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The molar mass of the molecular formula is an even multiple of the molar mass of the empirical formula. 5.93 g H = 5.88 moles H atoms 94.07 g O = 5.88 moles O atoms empirical formula = HO molar mass of HO = 17.007 34.015 / 17.007 = 2 molecular formula = H2O2 (molar mass = 34.015g/mol)

Q. I know what an empirical formula is so no need to answer that question. My question is: What are the uses of empirical formula? I've been solving for empirical formulas for about 2 years now and I still don't know what are their applications to life. Please answer this cause I need it for my lab report.

A. Emprical means known by experiment. So emperical formula means a formula known by experiment. The need of emperical formula is actually needed in the lab when you go for chemical reactions. You must add chemical in amount as defined by the emprical formula. For eg. Sulphate (SO4) combine in the ratio of 1: 4 That means 1 suphate combines with 4 oxygen atoms. in a reaction.

What are the formulas for zinc bicarbonate and magnesium bisulfate?
Q. What are the formulas for zinc bicarbonate and magnesium bisulfate? I think they're Zn(HCO3)2 and Mg(NaHSO4). If I'm wrong - explain the correct answer, please. Haha. The sodium was a weird typo.
Asked by Aneth - Sat Aug 9 18:18:45 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Both Zn and Mg have a valence of 2. Bicarbonate and Bisulphate have valences of 1. You're first formula is correct... Zn(2+) ion + 2 x HCO3(1-) ions... = Zn(HCO3)2. (Neutral Compound). The second will be Mg(HSO4)2... Mg(2+) ion + (2 x HSO4(1-) ions... = Mg(HSO4)2. (Neutral Compound).

Q. If the "actual" formula is what's required I don't see why empirical formulas are needed. Any help would be appreciated.
Asked by Gideon - Tue Jul 10 07:00:40 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. What is actual? Theoretical and empirical I know. When theoretical formulas are not known exactly, empirical formulas are used. Empirical formulas work in some conditions. Empirical means practically observed.

How to delete data in Excel but not formulas?
Q. I have a spreadsheet, lets say with columns a to z and 3000 rows of data, each field filled out. Thing is, i need to copy this data to another sheet, and re-use the current sheet, maintaining the formulas. I have for example some formulas and vlookups in columns g, h and k. If i plain delete the data, i lose the formulas. I could just delete the data in columns without formulas and leave the others but this will be time consuming. Is there some kind of delete function that will work on deleting data (values) in cells, but keep any formulas?
Asked by tsunamijon - Mon Jan 28 06:48:01 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Very easy to do. Press F5 to display the "Go To" box. Select the "Special" button. Choose the "Constants" button and remove the ticks from the Text, Logicals, and Error boxes. "Numbers" should be the ONLY box ticked. When you click "OK", every numeric cell across the spreadsheet will be selected. Now manually press "Delete" to delete the values. If you have text in the spreadsheet aswell, you would just de-select the "Numbers" option and select the "Text" option. That function can also be used to do many neat tricks. Let me know if you have any problems. Andrew

How do macros work and what formulas to use for internet data extraction?
Q. How to create formulas to extract data from a website and input into an Excel 2007 worksheet?
Asked by Kmyla - Thu Nov 6 09:51:38 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. IF you are running EXCEL, go to "TOOLS" and start a new macro. Put in use "DATA" "IMPORT" " WEB_INQUIRY" to get the data. You need to give it the web site address and then when you see the site you need to click on the exact location the data appears on the site. WHen that runs the site's data will be on you screen and available for saving in your computer. Put in "FILE" "SAVE AS " and you have it. Then do "FILE" "SAVE" for the workbook. Now save the macro. Try it until it is perfect. Then you can either extend the macro using the access to that file or can work with the file not using a macro.

How do i find the empirical and molecular formulas of benzene?
Q. Benzene contains only carbon and hydrogen and has a molar mass of 78.1 g/mol. Analysis shows the compound to be 7.73% by mass. Find the empirical and molecular formulas of benzene.
Asked by vbchick757 - Thu Aug 28 14:38:53 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. you missed a word after 7.73%. I'll add the word hydrogen. so 7.73% of the 78.1 is in hydrogen. That means that their is 6.03 grams of H for every 78.1. divide the 6.03 by the Mw of H and you get 5.999 or 6 H molecules. The remaining mass is carbons , so 78.1 - 6.03 leaves 72 or so. Divide that by the mole wt C and you get 6, therefore there are 6 carbons and 6 hydrogens. C6H6.

A. Empirical formula: is the simplest formula that represents the whole number ratio between the elements in a compound. Examples: CH, CH4, CH2O, K2Cr2O7, K3Fe(CN)6 Molecular Formula: shows the actual number of each type of atom in a molecule. Examples: C6H6, CH4, C6H12O6, K2Cr2O7, K3Fe(CN)6. Molecular formula = (Empirical formula) x n n = integer The molecular formula is whole number multiple of empirical formula. If n = 1, both the formulas will be the same. To calculate the molecular formula from empirical formula and molar mass follow the steps 1-3 below: 1. Calculate empirical formula mass 2. Calculate the value of n by dividing the molar mass by the empirical formula mass 3. Multiply the empirical formula by n

A. I study food chemistry, and I really hate to brea this to you, but figuring out the molecular formula for any one of those would take a long long long long time. Vegetables are organic molecules, mostly cellulose (C6H10O5)n, and each individual one the 'n' is different. The amount of water ( a lot) varies.> There are different sugars, and different amount in each species, and each type. I;m sorry, I don't think it's possible to calculate. However KUDOS to you for the "avacado's number" pun (Mole = avogadros number for anyone reading this) If you want, feel free to contact me to help with other ideas. I'm probably the most chemistry obsessed person on earth. Sorry I can't be of more help.~~
