Do you guys and girls think that gifted education is elitism?
Q. I'm writing a paper on elitism vs. equality in relation to gifted education and am just wondering the opinions of others.

A. Is support a child to succeed elitism? Did you know that a huge portion (some say as many as 30%) of girls labeled "gifted" by the third grade struggle even drop out of high school? Because they haven't had to struggle to make a grade, they may not know how to study. Gifted programs challenge children who would otherwise expend little effort in classes where they can "pass the test" without studying. They encourage strong study and work habits. It is not uncommon for some children to "dumb down" in a traditional classroom because there is so much pressure to fit in with their peers. Gifted education programs give these children a chance to feel "normal," and learn to their potential. In the end isn't that the best thing for all of… [cont.]
