NounSingular family Plural countable and uncountable; plural families family (countable and uncountable; plural families)
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Family denotes a group of people or animals (many species form the equivalent of a human family wherein the adults care for the young) affiliated by a consanguinity, affinity or co-residence. Although the concept of consanguinity originally referred to relations by "blood," anthropologists have argued that one must understand the idea of "blood" metaphorically, and that many societies understand 'family' through other concepts rather than through genetic distance. One of the primary functions of the family is to produce and reproduce persons, biologically and socially. Thus, one's experience of one's family shifts over time. From the perspective of children, the family is a family of orientation: the family serves to locate children socially, and plays a major role in their enculturation and socialization. From the point of view of the parent(s), the family is a family of procreation the goal of which is to produce and enculturate and socialize children. However, producing children is not the only function of the family; in societies with a sexual division of labor, marriage, and the resulting relationship between two people, is necessary for the formation of an economically productive household. A conjugal family includes only the husband, the wife, and unmarried children who are not of age. The most common form of this family is regularly referred to as a nuclear family. A consanguineal family consists of a parent and his or her children, and other people. A matrifocal family consists of a mother and her children. Generally, these children are her biological offspring, although adoption of children is a practice in nearly every society. This kind of family is common where women have the resources to rear their children by themselves, or where men are more mobile than women. From Wikipedia under the

From Google Blog Search: "Family" A family consists of a domestic group of people (or a number of domestic groups), typically affiliated by birth or marriage, or by analogous or comparable relationships — including domestic partnership, cohabitation, adoption, surname and (in some cases) ownership (as occurred in the Roman Empire). In many societies, family ties are only those recognized as such by law or a similar normative system. The different types of families occur in a wide variety of settings, and their specific functions and meanings depend largely on their relationship to other social institutions. Sourced

We are a family of 4 my husband and I and our 2 sons one is 2 and the other 6. I want us to have a theme but I am having trouble coming up with an idea. Kudos to those that provide links that sell the costume ideas that you post!! My boys are typical boys they like almost all cartoons and anything geared toward their ages. Thanks! Think of it-each one is an individual, but they work together. You could even be different colors. You can make the costumes yourself, easily. The boys would probably think that was fun as well! All you need is cardboard boxes, plastic butter containers (the Country Crock kind) and spray paint. You cut holes in the box and put the butter container through from the inside of the box, so that it sticks out. Then you paint the whole ensemble. You could use smaller containers for the boys (mini legos) and larger ones for you and your husband. You can also use rope or something similar-staple it to the box or… [cont.] Answered by BraxOwl - Tue Aug 19 14:41:45 2008 What family recipe do you have for homemade cookies/brownies? Q. I am looking for an interesting homemade cookie and/or brownie that I can serve to our family and use it for several days. There are only three living in our home now. I appreciate your assistance in this matter. Asked by Eds - Sat Feb 17 13:22:54 2007 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. This recipe from Barefoot Contessa is the best I've ever had. Sooo moist. And don't be thrown by the coffee in it. They won't taste like mocha, but rather the coffee enhances the chocolate. I actually omit the walnuts and substitute Espresso powder for coffee powder for an even stronger taste. Outrageous Brownies 1 pound unsalted butter 1 pound plus 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips, divided 6 ounces unsweetened chocolate 6 extra-large eggs 3 tablespoons instant coffee powder 2 tablespoons real vanilla extract 2 1/4 cups sugar 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, divided (1 cup for batter and 1/4 cup in the chips and nuts) 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 teaspoon kosher salt 3 cups diced walnut pieces Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Q. A family member is making excuses for every suggestion given to her. What can we do to convince her to get the help she needs. She is slipping further into postpartum depression. Asked by Jennifer M - Fri Jun 30 15:30:50 2006 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. Refusing help is a sign of depression. The more you try to help, the more they resent you for it. The important thing is to keep yourself healthy and not let it affect the rest of the family or the child/children. Answered by bbcranks - Fri Jun 30 15:35:53 2006 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Family"
