Homework Help?
Q. Valerie's family is having a reunion this weekend, and she is in charge of buying the items for the picnic lunch. The menu includes hot dogs, potato salad, and apple pie. There will be 34 people attending the family reunion. Valerie estimates she needs 1/2 cup of potato salad per person. Potato salad is sold in 4 cup containers. How many containers will Valerie need to buy.
Asked by jenjen - Thu Mar 1 21:00:48 2007 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments
A. 5 because 17 cups (34/2) divided by 4 is 4 and 1 remaining and that is not enough because you have 1 cup extra, and you cannot buy half a package.

Homework help on the decleration of independence?
Q. Hi! I have to draw a political cartoon on that event. I am thinking of drawing a male teacher giving out homework. The date is July 4, 1776. The teacher will give homework to the guys, and homework to the girls, african americans, and natives. What rights did the male have after the declaration had been declared? What did the males have that th females, and African Americans didn't? HELP!

A. I believe I did the same project. When the Declaration of Independence was declared, I believe that the males got the right to to basically be liberated from Britain, and to do progandas about Britain. Well, females stayed the same, there's no changes, they can't vote, and I guess they can't be eduacted. African Americans in that time were controlled by Europeans. They can't be part of anything. I suggest, to keep that idea about the teacher, just instead let one guy stand up like he passed a test. That idea symbolizes "Rights of Man", the females stood there. The teacher just looked through the African Americans like they weren't part of class. The natives, I guess more cultural, focus but not as well as the guys.

How much time do you spend doing homework everyday in college?
Q. Im starting college for the first time in sept. I have a 3yr old daughter and im a single mom. Taking social worker 2yr program. Can someont please tell me how much homework does one have to do daily? I heard that for every hour in the class room you must spend 3hrs doing homework. How much time do you spend doing homework everyday?
Asked by just me - Thu Jun 12 01:29:37 2008 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Honestly, it depends on the school, the department, and the professor. When I entered school, I was told that for every hour I was in a class, to expect four hours of homework. I never spend that much time on homework. I would say that I spend 1-5 hours total a night on homework, and I do the work the day it is talked about in class. When I spend 5+ hours on homework, it is usually due to me leaving a paper to the last minute.

Q. I never had much home work and I didn't do what homework I did get sent home with. My wife was recently helping our nephew with his homework every night after school. She stopped keeping him now. A. It really depends on the teacher, grade, and school! Ours is in Kindergarten and she has no homework, but a friend of ours son who was in Kindergarten at a different school. (Both schools only about 10 miles apart), got at least 2 hours of homework a night. It was ridiculous. I think it should be how my teacher phrased it in high school, that homework should never take you more than an hour unless your slacking. But I think some teachers now a days are putting a lot more pressure on the kids. So when your kids get into school I would talk to the teacher if you feel they are getting to much homework, it really will take a toll on your child. *My friends kid hated school because he'd get home at 3, do homework till 6 and then… [cont.]

How do I get into homework again and stop being disorganized and lazy?
Q. Last year, I had great grades, managed my homework, and kept everything organized. I was a hard worker who strove for the best. But this year, I hardly ever do all of my homework. A. I had the same problem way back when. An English teacher gave me a boost needed to break through the wall of boredom. She said that last year I knew myself, this year i seem to have lost myself or my identity. Last year I put my personality into my work. My answers could have been mixed with 100 other kids answers and she could have told me which one was mine even if the answer was incorrect. I had a style. This year I have looked at other people, wanting to change my character, my attitude, my personality, trying to imitate others instead of reaching back to the core of who I am. So, as with most wisdom, I will pass this on. Find out the unique person that enjoyed the sharing of their personality in their words. If you are serious, [cont.]

How much homework does your kids have vs what grade they are in?
Q. I really want to know how much homework your kids have when they come home from school everyday. (Well or how much they just had!) I don't remember ever having the homework my kids have. I will start - mine are in 3rd and 4th grade. 3rd grader has this math assignment every single night (it is one of two papers) even on Fridays and is supposed to read for about a half an hour. 4th grader has math of about 30 problems (pre-algerba) spelling words written 5x each (10 words) and has so to read for about that same half an hour. Also on Fridays too. I never understood the reading thing, they read for like an hour everyday IN school, both my boys read well above their grade levels. I think it is too much homework myself. A. I have found that it often isn't the grade, it is the school. Some schools emphasize "study hall" or a "study period" where students can work on homework. (Especially in schools where athletics are pushed.) This is great for students who otherwise would be too busy for schoolwork or don't have a good home environment to focus. Some teachers "allow" students to choose whether to work on homework at school. This is when you see the students' personality come out - some will tackle homework to be done, others will read instead and take homework home. Outside of school reading time - do your kids read in the car? Count That. Is the time based on a week? Divide up the total time for that week. My kids are now 23, 17, 11. We've… [cont.]

How can I get motivated to do my homework as soon as I get home from school?
Q. My school finishes at 3.20 and I get home at around 4. I usually take a nice long show then sit round on the computer and eat for the next 2 hours. Also what time do you think is a good time to start my homework?

A. Hi Rose, Go straight to your study area and leave you satchel nearby. Place a Sign over your study area with this message written on it. "My Homework is the Key to my Future Success" Shower and have a snack (not for two hours!) then commence your studies. Remember, you are investing in your future. Discipline is a wonderful skill to cultivate and making out a timetable that you promise yourself to work-to would be great. Our life is caught up in time, and when we waste our time, we waste our ??? You can do it.

If you find yourself inhaling food as you rush from the library to the mall or you notice a persistent ache in your lower jaw or the back of your neck, you probably need a little stress reduction. Here are five easy tips: 1. Exercise. You'll be surprised by how much better you'll feel if you take 30 minutes to practice yoga, go for a jog in the park or shoot some hoops. You ll reduce those stress-inducing hormones and boost your endorphins (those feel-good chemicals). Engaging in a rhythmic activity like swimming also helps clear your head. 2. Homework help! How were the Spanish Conquest of the Americas similar to the Crusades?
Q. I never ask for homework answers, but this is something I just can't find anything on and tomorrow I have to debate about it in class. Any information on the Spanish Conquest would be useful. But if you could find similarities between the Spanish Conquest of the Americas and how they were similar to ancient crusades, then I will be completely grateful.

A. First of all, you need to clarify what "ancient crusades" are. The "Crusades" usually refers to expeditions that occured in the middle ages, roughly the 11th to the 13th centuries. "Ancient" is usually used to refer to the times of the Greeks and Romans. Shorthand, the Spanish conquest of America was motived by the 3 G's, God, gold and glory. So clearly, there's the parallel in motivations to spread Christianity to "heathens." Both movements also involved the decimation of indigenous cultures in the hopes of civilizing "savages" like Muslims, pagans and Native Americans, meaning anyone who didn't believe in Catholicism. Both involved royal approval, violence, and present day implications for oppressed cultures who are still suffering… [cont.]

Q. I used to be very conscientious but then it all fell apart and I dont get to homework till 6, sometimes 7. A lot of the time I'm eating, watching TV, playing on the computer. Sometimes Im cleaning my room or jogging (I dont jog when its sunny, hence the later times) I also need to STUDY!!! But Its very hard to kick myself into a good homework habit. What do you suggest?

A. You don't have to do homework right after school...you can take a break or rest for a while, or even eat dinner first, then get to work after an hour. Once you start, make sure you finish the job! If you can, finish everything before playing, but if not, try to fit whatever you can in an hour or so, then take a break and continue it when you can. Also, try not to find excuses to escape doing homework- tell yourself that once its over, you're free. Haha. Whatever you decide to do to make yourself do school stuff, make sure you stick to that...Hope you get to doing well soon!=)

Why do people criticize others for helping students with homework questions?
Q. I feel that I am not helping the kids cheat, but giving them a nudge in the right direction. I always helped my kids with their homework in grade school - early college. I am an elder who has seen and heard many important eras in history. All 3 kids are adults doing well with minimal help thank you. I know that if more parents spent time to help their children with homework we wouldn't have the problems we have today. I have a few friends who home school their kids and all are very intelligent and on their way to good colleges.

How can i make homework and studying fun for myself?
Q. Im going into high school this year, and i really need to do well in order to get into a good college, because i want to be a surgeon. last year in eighth grade, i found it hard to study, like i did everything besides study, and it was hard for me to focus while doing homework, and most of the time i wouldnt finish my homework. I really need this to change before high school. Any ideas on how i can make myself want to study and do well? or make homework fun for myself?

A. I don't really know if this is making it fun but it's making it worthwhile: 1. There is no harm in rewarding yourself. After an hour of studying take a break, watch a little tv (no more than 30 minutes) or eat a healthy snack, or go for a walk, or just lay down and relax. Come back and study again for an hour. 2. Don't let yourself not finish. If you have a few problems left don't take the break right away, stay a little longer and finish the problems. 3. Don't have anything open if your working off a computer and disconnect your internet to avoid distractions, turn off the television, radio, ipod, etc and just sit in a quiet well lit area. 4. Realize you have big goals and it's not worth tanking them over not studying or not doing… [cont.]

How to stop kids from posting their homework on Yahoo answers?
Q. Any ideas, cause this is really hurting the kids. I have myself answered several of their questions while always telling them how to get better at their studies. But now I think its only encouraging them. In the long run, you would agree, this isn't good for them at all. I am ok with teaching them concepts and giving them explanations and helping them with learning aids etc. But direct questions right out of the homework isn't a good thing to be answered really. Do you have any ideas, real practical ones, to stop this misuse of Yahoo answers?

A. Basically, what these kids are learning, is how to get anyone else to do their work for them. If the teachers aren't wise to this system of cheating, then they just let them go on, and probably never notice that the kids with all the As on their homework are failing the tests, because they have to actually do that themselve! You would think it would show up, eventually, but it doesn't seem that anyone has noticed except for us. I agree, totally. One of the things that just kills me is these kids who post the questions, one or two at a time, so they are all spread out, and people come on and answer one or two before they realize what they have done, and quit. But by then the damage has been done, and the kid has the answers to… [cont.]

How should I approach a load of homework at 12 in the night?
Q. So, I play soccer as well as take 4 AP classes. This year the majority of our games are away games and it's horrible because we're required to ride the bus and get there an hour and a half earlier than our game and I usually get home around 11 to 12. Then I have my homework to cope with. And no I can't work on the bus because it's too noisy/bumpy and the bus leaves right after school so I can't do much then. And while we're waiting for our games we're required to watch the other teams so no time there either. I've been running on 3 hours of sleep for about a week and a half now, any tips are appreciated.

A. Haha, i think the best way to look at it, is to forget the sense of impending doom. drink coffee! Mountain Dew, Vault-whatever has caffiene on it. You can catch up on your sleep during your free periods/lunches/weekends. Dont look at your homework at night thinking "omg im soo sleepy, i cant get up for school tomorrow", drink some coffee and do your homework thinking that you have all the time in the freaking world. Some people work better under pressure, yknow?
