Algebra is the branch of mathematics concerning the study of the rules of operations and the things which can be constructed from them, including terms, polynomials, equations and algebraic structures. Together with geometry, analysis, topology, combinatorics, and number theory, algebra is one of the main branches of pure mathematics. Elementary algebra is often part of the curriculum in secondary education and introduces the concept of variables representing numbers. Statements based on these variables are manipulated using the rules of operations that apply to numbers, such as addition. This can be done for a variety of reasons, including equation solving. Algebra is much broader than elementary algebra and studies what happens when different rules of operations are used and when operations are devised for things other than numbers. Addition and multiplication can be generalised and their precise definitions lead to structures such as groups, rings and fields. From Wikipedia under the

Q. I am planning on taking College Algebra in summer A, and Business Calculus in Summer B. With both of these courses being difficult, would this be very difficult to accomplish? Also, how difficult is Business Calculus? Asked by serge.coudert - Thu Jan 8 22:16:41 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. That is a very doable combination. I have to take two upper-level college Chemistry courses in the summer. I hear from everyone (students and teachers) that Business Calculus shouldn't even be considered Calculus because it is so easy and isn't very Calculus oriented. I aced my college algebra course, so that shouldn't be a problem either. You should be fine. The only thing you should be worried about is how you will be paying for these courses. Good Luck and I hope this helps! Answered by read umbs - Thu Jan 8 22:23:40 2009 How do Computer Scientists use algebra on a daily basis? Q. Why is algebra so important to computer scientists? Q. My daughter is in Geometry and has started struggling and will go into Algebra 2 next year. Are there any good websites for tutorials? It's been years I really don't have the skills to teach her. Asked by rsf - Fri May 4 16:35:25 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. Algebra is the use of simple equations and variables to solve a problem. Geometry uses these equations and variables and applies then with various theorems to shapes. Algebra II is more complex equations and can deal with several variables in one problem. Hope that helps. As far as tutoring see if the school offers it, and if not then you can go to www.algebra.com or try sylvan, i have heard they are good.
