Where can I get kumon worksheets (without joining kumon center)?
Q. I am looking to get kumon worksheets (in sequence) for my kids. Where could I get it. I know there are multiple sites available who give worksheets but kumon worksheet follow an order (The order of moving to next level after another). That's the only reason I am interested in kumon worksheets. There are some initial stage workbooks but not after subtractions (in math). Is joining kumon the only way to get those worksheets?

A. Kumon is a set of services. Granted, the meat of it is the worksheets. However part of that is your determination to make the kid do the work, and by paying $100/month per subject you are given that determination (dammit, you're doing this because I paid for it!!) and checking in to the Kumon school every week forces YOU to adhere to their schedule. I'm saying "you" as the parent because you're the one who's under pressure, and you have to place that pressure on the child in their own way because it's not their money being spent. (Major rewards have worked for us.) Another "service" is their regular testing and evaluation. My oldest child is in Kumon, but not my younger three. The reason is that my oldest is blazing the trail and after two… [cont.]

A. This really depends on where you are located, but many larger cities have Kumon math and reading learning centers, to include international locations. An immediate search revealed sites for Kumon Learning Centers in Chelmsford, Massachusetts; Auburn, Alabama; Seattle, Washington; Australia & New Zealand; and Auburn Hills, Michigan. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Boston, Massachusetts are also named. This is likely the tip of the iceberg.

What is your opinion of Kumon Learning?
Q. I have recently started working as an assistant at a Kumon learning center and I am wondering if it is worth the parents' expense. At first look, it seems good--children learning independently at their own pace. But then, on second look, it appears to me that parents are paying for "busywork" in the form of worksheets without any preliminary or supporting instruction. Based on my observaion, the premise is that children will learn on their own: works in theory, but not necessarily in fact. I'll make no more comments until I see some feedback.

A. I'm also an assistant at Kumon, and as someone who's formerly done Kumon as a kid, I can say that it's worked pretty darn well. Math abides by set rules, and repetitive practice of these rules will result in a pretty math proficient kid. Especially at a young age, constant repetition will ensure success in math at older ages as well. Well it did for me, and many of my friends xD Of course, the student must actually sit down, read the examples, understand them, and apply them. A lot of times, since it's independent learning, kids will cut corners and avoid work a lot, resulting in learning nothing. On the other hand, Kumon English was largely useless for me. Being able to write well is presumably the goal of Kumon Language, but repetition… [cont.]

Does anyone know of a program via the internet that is similar to Kumon math? Thank you!?
Q. My 13 yod THRIVED in Kumon, but at $100. a month and twice a week visits, it became apparent we needed to do something at home. Saxon is good, but because my daughter needs repetition I am having to make up math problems myself which is very time consuming. I am looking for something pretty close to Kumon via the internet so that I can print out the worksheets, but maybe even doing the problems over the computer might work. And...I'm looking for something a little cheaper. :) thank you in advance!

A. I haven't seen anything. Saxon is known for being overly repetitive. Most school supply stores have tons of math workbooks. You can buy several and just give your child extra practice problems. You may be able to buy these online as well.

Q. Can someone explain in detail about what Kumon Math is about? If a 7th grader started Kumon, what level will he probably start in? Oh, and if you can can you send examples of the worksheets to seventhgrade1@zoomshare.c om. I will be marking the answer on detail, so explain as much as you can.

A. Well, I don't have any worksheets so sorry. But basically the Kumon Method is learning through repitition. Not to the point where you memorize it, but where you know what you're doing. At lower levels, 1+1 and 2x3 are to sharpen your skills so that you're insanely fast when it comes to those. And higher levels where they start to teach you hard stuff is where the method kicks in. Basically, to learn it, they'll give you an example. you follow the example step by step You fail the worksheet, they make you repeat it. Instructor teaches you how to do it. No better way to learn than through your own mistakes. Take worksheet again. Fail again. This time instructor helps you hammer in fine points. Take worksheet again. Pass. Make you repeat.… [cont.]

Is Kumon (English and/or Chinese) good? Are the Kumon insructors helpful?
Q. I heard that Kumon helps people who are weak in Math, but what about language (Chinese/ English)? I am in Secondary 1 and I am poor in my Chinese in terms of writing, reading, listening and speaking. I went for the orientation and I understand that they give you homework daily and they make you do it until you perfect it. But let's say I have a question I do not know how to do it. If I ask the instructor, will he teach me how to do it or will he just go through the examples and instuctions in the worksheet? Is Kumon just a place that gives you homework repeatedly and help you mark them?

Q. What's the exact procedure when you go inside? -Turn in take home worksheets that are already graded by parent answer book to the instructor to keep and record. -The instructor gives you more worksheets to do. -You time your work? & then turn in for the instructor to grade -You sit back down, and then the instructor comes over to you to fix the mistakes. -You fix it and then go back up and turn it in, they come back and then what?? Also, what's this whole clocking in thing? And when do you know to leave? Does it matter which instructor to go to? Does anyone go to one in Houston? Please correct me if i'm wrong!! A. I know the process for math, not sure about reading... The homework that you get, I believe that you have to correct all your mistakes and turn it in until you correct all your mistakes. You have to time your work because they look at that, and your level, and see whether or not you're actually learning. So if you take an hour doing let's say division problems, then you'd probably have to go back down a level in order for you to be able to do well. This boy once was in the G level and he was pushed back to C because he took literally forever to finish his final test to get to the next level. you leave when you are finished with all your work. That means classwork and correcting old homeworks and classworks. i believe that you have… [cont.]

A. I wouldn't enroll in a military school right now, since we stand to go to war with Afghanistan at any time. However, having said that, if I were you I would go to the library, and get some standard division sheets--just standard. Start with those and gradually advance to other things like Algebra and Trig--the test will mostly basic division-not alegbra and trig. If u need to then go back and talk to your guidance counselor--they should have some sheets u can use for free and they may be able to help you a lot. I would not enroll in KUmon, however, if that counts as military duty then do it! BTW, I work with the OBT, and we will be praying for you as you make your decision.
