How good at mental math do you have to be to be an air traffic controller?
Q. How good at mental math do you have to be to be an air traffic controller? What kinds of mental math do you have to be able to do, and with how large of numbers? Is it something a normal person can do, or do you need to be near-prodigy to be able to mentally crunch the numbers? Do they teach you how to do it while you're in the CTI program, or do you need to go into it already having that skill?

A. Can you talk with three people at the same time while looking up a number on you cell phone, while your bladder is full? The math is no longer as nevessary as it was. The ability to block out all outside distractions and concentrate on the job is the most important thing. Part of it is learned, part is a natural ability. They will figure out if you can do very early in the program.
