Is mathematics the greatest skill of a Chartered Accountant?
Q. Is mathematics the greatest skill of a Chartered Accountant? I am planning to be a CA. I want to know if math is a very important skill to have to be a CA. And if a lot of math is a major subject in universities for people planning to be Chartered Accountants?
Asked by Adeel - Sun Apr 6 15:07:18 2008 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Trust me man, any of the math you need to know to be an accountant you learned in middle school. You do not need to be a physics major or calculus genius. Accounting is more about where the numbers go, not doing insane math. Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, Dividing, and Percentages is what you will be using. It is not hard, but very interesting. Just remember ASSETS = liabilities + owners equity... What you have is equal to what you owe, plus what you own..

What is the defintion of mathematics? What is the beauty of mathematics? How do you make students interested?
Q. What is the defintion of mathematics? What is the beauty of mathematics? How do you make students interested in mathematics? (through the its applications, beauty... ...?) I feel that mathematics is like a tree which is deeply rooted in the world. It has two main branches which are numbers and shapes. In addition, it constantly branches out into new areas as time passes. Every branch and leaf is different and unique in its own way.

A. 1)"For starters, we might say that the mathematics is the science of quantity and space. This answer might have been satisfactory four hundred years ago, but today we would say that mathematics is multi-faced: It is the art and science of dealing with deductive(i.e.,"theoremat ic") and algorithmic(i.e., computational) structures that concern themselves with quantity, space, pattern, and arrangement. Mathmatics also deals with the language-like symbolisms that allows us to express and manipulate these concepts. No definition of mathematics is legislated and...this keeps the mathematics fluid. Mathematics lives and is shaped by all who contemplates, speculate on, describe, apply and develop mathematics. On the other hand, the dream of a… [cont.]

How difficult are finite mathematics and basic calculus?
Q. I recently changed my major. As part of this change, I have to take two extra math classes - finite mathematics and basic calculus. I made an "A" in college algebra, but that was like a year ago, so I'll have to review some. How hard are these two classes? How much of college algebra do these two classes contain? Does basic calculus have the same material as calculus 1?

Are the Mathematics of today destined to fail for the birth of new complexes and applicable theories/formulas?
Q. It is quite evident that many of the Mathematical areas and complexes are bringing mathematicians to a slow halt; just like in Calculus, their research never reaches a halt, but is always approaching it. Could it be that the Mathematics that we implement today be destined to fail for an emerging realm of unprecedented mathematics, such that of Fermat's Last Theorem. Is it possible that Mathematicians are searching for the wrong? Rather than the solution, proposed it must, be the question?

A. "It is quite evident that many of the Mathematical areas and complexes are bringing mathematicians to a slow halt;" I agree, but we can only hope that a breaktrough will allow us to pass the halt, that is the essence of math, to advanced, even sometimes slowly. I guessed the problems Poicare proposed 100 years ago were finally solved( except one I think). "Could it be that the Mathematics that we implement today be destined to fail for an emerging realm of unprecedented mathematics, such that of Fermat's Last Theorem." I don't think so. Actually the real mass of abstract math was done in the last 200 years. "Is it possible that Mathematicians are searching for the wrong?" A. well you are in luck. there is a shortage in math teachers in my school district. all you do is contact that school district. mine is not in peoria however, but I am sure it is the same process. for example, to get an idea, go to LAUSD and there is an area where it shows how you can work there if you have a foreign degree or are from abroad. so basically get in touch with that district, tell them what you want and theyll instruct you further.

Q. They are both different test, I know what the algebra one covers, but what does the Mathematics one cover? The class code is MGF1106 Also what is a good study source for the Mathematics Clep?
Asked by Pixie - Thu Jul 9 13:38:42 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Anytime you need information on CLEP, the best place to look for general information is the College Board website. Here is a link to the College Mathematics exam description which tells you what types of problems you can expect on the test: Please check with your college before taking either CLEP. Not all schools grant credit for both of these exams. My college accepts the College Algebra CLEP, but not the College Mathematics CLEP. Also make sure that whichever one you're interested in taking will meet your degree requirements. Your advisor can help you determine that. I've not taken either of these tests yet, but for study resources, you may want to look into purchasing the REA books. They're available on Amazon and contain a… [cont.]

If I wanted to major in mathematics and planned on becoming a professor?
Q. If I wanted to major in mathematics and planned on becoming a professor, would I have to take the same classes in college as someone planning to teach 7-12 graders? Or do we take different courses in graduate school but the same in college?
Asked by God is dead - Sat Mar 21 20:41:38 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No, most education majors take very little in the way of math courses. But if they want to teach math at the high school level, yes, you'll start out in the same classes. However, they'll be done after 4 years, and you'll be heading off to grad school for another 4-8 years of advanced coursework and research. You need at least a masters to teach at the college level, and most universities and 4-year colleges expect a PhD.

A. If it is just to convince your friend, then try to find out the things that interest this friend and then relate mathematics to his interests. I guessing relating should be relatively easy since most items (or least this is true to me) are related to mathematics. Hope this will help you.

A. Well Russell & Whitehead in 'Principia Mathematica' started by rigorously defining the fundamental concepts 'zero','one','plus','equa ls','two'. Which you're going to need to define the concept of number and set theory. Sounds like a sensible place to start. Then you can get to algebra and calculus. Geometry will require separate axioms, see Euclid's axioms. Doing this ultra-rigorously was beyond Russell "A fourth volume on the foundations of geometry had been planned, but the authors admitted to intellectual exhaustion upon completion of the third."

For example, you must have a total of 111 in the stocks circle, a total of 80 in the intersection of the stocks and bonds circles, etc. Good luck.

I would start with basic algebra, then go to geometry, then intermediate algebra, then statistics.

Calculus would be considered further mathematics for sure, but statistics may count as further mathematics as well. I would pose this question to the admissions office at Cambridge. I am sure they can clarify for you.
