What are the most important topics in mathematics that a student should learn before leaving high school?

A. It really depends on the field the student is going for. No matter what, I think a thorough understanding of basic and advanced algebra concepts are necessary. For most majors, you need a basic math course. If you're fluent in your algebra, you'll breeze through. That goes for Engineering majors through. Once you take Calculus I, you realize the the most difficult part of the course is the algebraic gymnastics you have to do to simplify answers and rationalize functions.
