NounSingular Muslim Plural Muslims Muslim (plural Muslims) From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A Muslim (Arabic: مسلم), pronounced /ˈmʊslɪm/, is an adherent of the religion of Islam. The feminine form is Muslimah (Arabic: مسلمة). Literally, the word means "one who submits (to God)". Muslim is the participle of the same verb of which Islam is the infinitive. Muslims believe that there is only one God, translated in Arabic as Allah. Muslims believe that Islam existed long before Muhammad and that the religion had evolved with time from the time of Adam until the time of Muhammad and was completed with the revelation of verse 3 of Surah al-Maeda:
The Qur'an describes many Biblical prophets and messengers as Muslim: Adam, Noah (Arabic: Nuh), Moses and Jesus and his apostles. The Qur'an states that these men were Muslims because they submitted to God, preached his message and upheld his values. Thus, in Surah 3:52 of the Qur'an, Jesus’ disciples tell Jesus, "We believe in God; and you be our witness that we submit and obey (wa ashahadu bil-muslimūna)." Muslims consider making ritual prayer five times a day a religious duty (fard) (see the section on Ismāˤīlīs below for exceptions); these five prayers are known as fajr, dhuhr, ˤasr, maghrib and ˤishā'. There is also a special Friday prayer called jumuˤah. Currently, the most up to date report from an American think-tank has estimated 1.57 billion Muslims populate the world, representing 23% of an estimated 2009 world population of 6.8 billion. With 60% in Asia and 20% of Muslims living in the Middle East and North Africa. Q. What exactly is the suggested 'Islamic punishment' for Geert Wilders I saw a "Muslim" waving on a placard in London? Or are these people not Muslim either? From my understanding, Islamic punishment for blasphemy is death. Asked by Arthur - Sat Oct 17 11:54:52 2009 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments A. Last Thursday night the BBCs "Question Time" dealt with a question about why Geert Wilders was being allowed into Britain. He had been banned at a previous attempt but he had legally overturned this ban and so gained entry. He had been invited by a Member of the House of Lords, and not by any political party. His Lordship is a member of the United Kingdom Independence Party, as the UKIP spokesman, Nigel Farage pointed out. UKIP abhors the BNP and has nothing to do with it and does not stand for what that despicable party stands for. UKIP feels Mr Wilders has the right to express his opinions and to explain his reasons for wishing to have the Qur'an banned. That is why many Muslims seem to hate him and wish to silence him. Q. i jus wanna know. for general knowledge. im a muslim myself and i jus wanna know what others think. and if possible, if u are refering to the Qur'an, then give me the surah and ayat. thanks. Asked by Izzhakim - Wed Sep 30 01:53:34 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Well, according to the Muslim perspective, all supernatural occurrences should be accorded to God and no one else. Muslims don't generally believe in ghosts, spirits etc. nor are they allowed to believe in them. However, they do believe in jinns, who are supernatural beings that once populated the Earth long before mankind but are now almost extinct, with only a few left here and there.
