What types of organizations would fund a health care organization?
Q. I am writing a paper that requires me to find an organization or company that would fund a health care organization or social program. The program would be to train young people (ages 18 to 25) for free on basic health care, such as CPR, taking blood pressure, etc. Things people should know how to do in an emergency situation or if the situations simply warrants it. Does anyone know of any organizations or companies that would fund this type of thing? I've been trying to look but have not come up with anything.

A. I am currently researching grants to non-profit organizations in order to find funding for parent support groups for parents of children with disabilities, and would be glad to forward m Excell Spreadsheet on Grants to those providing their e-mail address. I know that insurance companies like Blue Cross and Aetna have set-up foundations to provide grants to non-profits engaged in educating young people in healthcare matters. my email: abelke59@yahoo.com

other organizations such as the Peace Corps or AmeriCorps?
Q. I am interested in a year of service after graduating before going on to law school, and I was trying to find an organization that was more hands-on than the two mentioned above. These organizations are more about setting up a poverty network than physically helping people in poverty, from what I have read anyway, and I am interested in something more direct. Any suggestions, tips, advice? Thanks in advance.

How are volunteer organizations primarily funded?
Q. I am thinking mainly of ESL literacy organizations. I realize they have the volunteers for the work, but they also ussually have full time staff, facilities and revenue. Do donations keep these organizations afloat, or do they tap into some sort of government grant handout that supports them because they are serving the community (whatever that means) I would like to know how these organizations work? I'm believer in the follow the money principle but where is the money come from?

What organizations can I volunteer at that do not deal with the needy?
Q. Before the summer ends, I would like to do some volunteering with organizations that do not deal with the needy. I do not want to work for the homeless, the handicap, handicap children or the elderly (handicap or not). I also hate calling folks on the phone for blood or donations. My only explanation that I can give for my avoidance is that I do not have the patience or I am afraid that I would get too concerned about there lifes. I simply do not want to get involve or make any sort of "friendships" that may carry long time commitments. Thanks

What are some non profit animal focused organizations?
Q. What are some trustworthy non profit organizations that you know for sure are worth donating money to and that will use 100% of the donations toward the cause of protecting animals? I'm looking for organizations dealing with both pets and wild animals, animal abuse, endangered species, etc. I'm planning on starting my own non profit 'campaign' of sorts to support a new non profit organization like this each month. I'm starting with animals, but don't want to donate money to someone who will use it on something completely unhelpful to the actual cause.

A. Ok I have to let you know one fact-there are NO charitable organizations/non profits where 100% of the donations go to the actual cause. I look for a range of 80-99%, some people are comfortable going as low as 75% but not me. They may have some events where 100% of what they raise in donations goes to the cause but those are usually underwrtitten by a large donor. Unfortunately they have expenses too-salaries/insurance/ov erhead/office supplies-you know the same stuff for profit companies use. Check your yellow pages or online for a local chapter of what i consider are the best options below: American Council for the Blind-Guide Dogs paws peta humane Society Check on any charity through the better business bureau. What are the largest martial art organizations in the world?

A. Actually the World Karate Federation is one of the largest, if not the largest, in the world. They have an estimated 60 million members worldwide and include sub associations that number in the thousands. ATA is a large association but one of the least respected. WTF is the largest for Tae Kwon Do with about 8 Million world wide but they never update their database to exclude non training members. ISKA is very small in comparison so is NASKA, WUKO, NBL and the other sport associations.

A. Spend 1 day volunteering for the ACLU. Hear me out on this. The ACLU, a non-profit, public interest law firm takes on cases that have the possibility to weaken the US Constitution. That is all they do. They defend the Constitution. Sometimes that means taking cases that are wildly unpopular, but, in a free society, we have to defend all view points. I am not trying to turn you into a liberal. I am not poking fun at you. I am a liberal Christian and a member of the ACLU. Looking at all sides of a debate, experiencing the work that an organization like the ACLU does will make you a stronger Christian and a more well-rounded individual. Then go join the Federalist Society and network that group to get a great job!
