I am studying to be a history teacher. Can you suggest professional organizations and conferences for me?
Q. I am studying to a history teacher, and really want to get involved with professional organizations and attend conferences to learn more about the field. Unfortunately, my school is not very great with providing this sort of info to us, so I'm turning to you for assistance. If you have any ideas of organizations and conferences that would benefit a future teacher, please let me know! Thanks in advance!

A. look into the OHA or AHA, both are professional historical associations. They may require you get sponsorship for your membership from a faculty member at your school, or will require a dues fee. However, beyond that they offer all that one would expect of such an association.

Are professional organizations/membership fees tax deductable?
Q. I am a full time employee of a non profit hospital and have independently joined a professional organization (health care related). The hospital can't reimburse me , but can I use the fees as a tax deduction? Dues are 150/year plus 25-50 dollars/event.
Asked by nmarq - Fri Feb 22 20:14:02 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Depends, do you itemize your taxes? Then yes, on your schedule A. Otherwise no. They figure everyone has expenses and dues and deductions, and unless yours are over the standard deduction $5100, it's not worthwhile to itemize. Events probably aren't deductible.

Q. why is it important to list involvement in professional organizations on your resume or college application.
Asked by Brit Chick - Fri Nov 14 06:08:20 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Involvement in professional organizations demonstrates your dedication to your field of study beyond what you are required to do for school or work. Finding employees (or students) who do just what they have to do to get by is easy -- those involved in professional organizations have gone an extra step beyond the minimum. Those involved with professional organizations also benefit from additional learning opportunities and networking.

When answering questions in dogs, I frequently include links from professional organizations...?
Q. what do you think are the chances the people asking the question actually take the time to view the info? my guess is slim to none. why? one needn't even ever use the info on the links, but why not at least look? just curious... thanks all. i was just curious because when you answer a question, you have the opportunity to "list your source". i guess i'm naive enough to think someone looking for a real answer might want to know that source.

A. A few months back, I posted a question about dogs needing adoptions in another state. The question incuded a news article about the pups that were taken from a puppymill and needd to be adopted or they would be put to sleep. The question was removed. I protested it several times and the deletion stood. They said it was spam. To me if that was spam so is any link to any rescue organization, petfinder, etc. I have seen some posts with maybe 10 links. No, I would not look at ten links. I don't have the time.

Bylaws - why do professional organizations need them?
Q. Such as the Association of Computing and Machinery (ACM)? How can bylaws be incorporated into working life?
Asked by Kat - Fri Jul 20 18:48:43 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Generally, bylaws do NOT have to be filed with the secretary of state of the relevant jurisdiction. Bylaws is essentially a contract between the corporation and its shareholders, and governs that relationship. It is basically an internal governing document. If, however, there is a conflict between the bylaws and articles of incorporation, the articles of incorporation will govern.

I would like to market subscriptions to the the journal to libraries.
