A. I just graduated in June 08. The school says I am gifted. I remember in elementary I went to the school down the road for this retarded gifted class where we did stupid activities that basically made us think. In high school there were these meetings and they wanted us to make teams and go to competitions. A bunch of garbage. In grade 10 I told the woman running it not to invite me to any more gifted things and basically remove me from the gifted program although on all the report cards it still shows gifted. I think it can be useful but to me the gifted kids were normal and the other kids are dumb. The entire gifted thing is ridiculous. I live in British Colombia Canada

How do I get quality, low-cost education in Orange County for my academically gifted child?
Q. My daughter knew how to read by her 3rd birthday. She could do simple math problems in her head by the age of 4. She is almost 7, going into 3rd grade, and she can do the work they'll be teaching at the end of the year (and then some). Her school's gate program isn't available until 4th grade, and their spiral type curriculum ((where they continually return to past lessons to get the students who didn't get it the first time back on track and reinforce the concepts for those students who did)) is hindering her progress. I think shes in the wrong school. But my husband and I cannot afford private school. Also my 2 year old boy is on the same path. What can I do?

A. As an alternative to private school, if you and your husband have some time, you could make sure to get them involved in activities outside of school. There might be reading groups at public libraries, and any free museums you can go to that would be good. Additionally, if you do know the phone numbers of the private schools in your area, you can generally talk with the staff there and see if there's anyway they can help provide some financial aid, or if there's a way to raise money for your kid's education (fund raisers?).

SAT IQ ADHD questions from a gifted student, people knowledgeable in IQ testing/gifted education/SAT/ADHD only?
Q. *I am not trying to show off or be obsessive about my IQ, I just want to know the facts because the last couple years of school for me have been really confusing because of an undiagnosed disorder of ADHD, and I really need to know what my strengths and weaknesses are, because ADHD is a disorder that causes weaknesses in many academic areas (especially staying focused when reading and writing essays...aghh), and it's important for me to compensate for these weaknesses and also, know what my strengths are and use them to my advantage. Hoagies gifted site just has a lot of info you can find on ADHD, both the commonness in gifted kids as well as misdiagnosis in gifted kids who just have a lot of energy, many interests and get bored easily! I know you already think you have it, and maybe you do. I say, at your age, just work with it, instead of drugging yourself. Just my bias. As far as the SAT goes, Collegeboard is the SAT site. I say look in their "contact us" section and fire someone off an email on this. Since you already have a diagnosis as a exceptionally to profoundly gifted kid (educational options site I gave), what are you looking for in testing yourself more?
