What is the research regarding homosexuality besides the research about it being hereditary?
Q. I've heard a lot f speculation about this topic like the stuff about homosexuality being something that your born with. I would like to know more about other scenarios that have nothing to do with a person being "born" with the gene such as any studies about homosexuality and traumatic events or spending lots of time with your own gender. Websites, examples and specific research would be very helpful! Thanks.

How much research experience is best to have if you want to go to a research oriented medical school?
Q. How much research experience during the undergraduate years looks best to have if you want to get into a research oriented medical school or go for an MD/Ph.D progam?
Asked by Rachel - Fri Oct 3 16:00:33 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First, I don't know of many medical schools that aren't research-oriented, if there are any. If you're going for an M.D., you don't have any reason to do research as an undergraduate unless you plan on a research career. In which case, you'd be better off with a Ph.D. than with an M.D., or with the extra years required for an M.D./Ph.D. Undergraduate research might look good on your application for a highly competitive school, though. The folks I've known who have M.D./Ph.D.'s mostly didn't do any undergraduate research, and the majority of them never used their Ph.D., which means they wasted a lot of time to wind up in clinical practice anyway. The rest never use their M.D., so there's 4 years wasted of memorizing minutiae to pass… [cont.]

What exactly is the point of undergrad research ?How do I get myself involved in undergrad research ?
Q. I have been hearing about students my age doing research with all these professors and doctors. But I don't have any contacts like that. What is way in which I can join an undergrad research.

A. Talk to your academic adviser or the director of the department you want to do research with. They can point you to the right person, or give you some options. I did research because I knew I wanted to go to graduate school and it looks good on the resume. It can also help develop your interests in a subject and give you an idea of what you like and don't like to do.

Q. How do you become a research analyst and how much do research analysts generally make? Ex: Michael Pachter
Asked by Tupac S - Sat Apr 19 23:49:09 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Several ways: 1. If out of college, start at a buy side or sell side firm and learn the business. 2. Get a CFA 3. Get an MBA and become an Associate at an I-bank. Salaries vary depending on the locaiton and buy/sell side. If you are a Portfolio Manager, avg comp is about $300K. If you are a 1st year analyst all inclusive should be around 60-70K. On an average expect to make $120K with a few years of experience. The CFA institute publishes a survey with all these stats which you may find on their website.

A. They do research on public attitudes, survey's...development of new research tools...University of Michigan has the Institute of Social Research...they have been gathering info for years...attitudes toward...xxx fill in the blank. With that they have also validated new survey tools, and methodologies to collect/analyze data. Rutgers has one focus on Public Policy...so data assists policy makers to formulate new legislation. Many others use data from these centers to write grants (just as they use the data from the Bureau of Census, who collects similar data at a larger level).

A. Because Honda is a publicly traded company, you can get some of their financial reports from the Securities & Exchange Commission through their EDGAR database ( Here is a link to Honda's most recent Annual Report/Form 20-F: You can also find information at Honda's Investor Relations page: Unfortunately, any information that Honda is not required to disclose might prove difficult to find because companies want to guard any trade secrets. If you want to find information on their management strategies/organizational structure, your best bet may be in academic or trade journals such as Organizational Dynamics or Personnel Today. If you can go to a public or academic library, I would recommend searching in an EBSCO Business Source… [cont.]

What is a good research topic in the field of accounting?
Q. I'm a sophomore in college, and I'm planning on doing research in the field of accounting either this year or next year. I will probably end up writing my thesis on it, so it shouldn't be something basic and boring. It needs to be something that I can actually research and do work on, but nothing too complicated because as I mentioned above, I am only a sophomore in college. If anyone has any ideas, that would be great!

This was when prices and values were generally rising. Now we have write-down of impaired assets. What's next and where will it end? How's that?

A. Stem cells include a complete set of DNA of the donor and can be rejected (as any donated tissue) by another recipient and there are concerns that they can cause malignant cancers. Much remains to be learned about them and they must be used in patients only with great caution.

A. That's great that you already have some idea of what you would like to study while in graduate school. I am currently getting my Ph.d in experimental cognitive psychology, and it's been great. Looking for a good graduate school program is very different from looking for a good college. In college, it's all about "how well respected" the school is, but in graduate school, the university itself does not really matter much. If you are looking to get a Ph.d (which I expect, because you listed research interests), the faculty advisor (mentor) you work with in graduate school will be FAR more important than *where* you are at. It's all about finding the right faculty advisor to work with, and that is what you should be making your application… [cont.]

A. I would suggest you to devise a mathematical model describing any process, use your devised model to make certain predictions and analyze the consistency of the model against actual data. It would be better if you devise a model that describes some time-series variable, and i hope you can easily think of one.As an example ,population growth.Secondary data of such variables are easily available, but collection of primary data is virtually impossible and would need time,i guess you know why.

A. The majority of research has been in this field. There have been no major breakthroughs yet. Also, I don't think we're going to be growing usable nerve cells for several years yet. For how we are doing it I would goggle "stem cells" and look at some of the "hits" for myself.

Where do I get to research from of a business I want to start on Ebay?
Q. I want to start a business on Ebay, but where do I get the research from? With a brick-and-mortar buisness, I get talk to other buisness owners and interview them. But, How do I research a business I want to start on Ebay. I'm trying to write a business plan for a business I want to start on Ebay. I know how much it's projected gross profits, but how do I figure out how much start-up money I am gonna have to have? How many employees to hire. Anybody got any ideas?
Asked by Penny - Mon Sep 24 21:42:01 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You really need the book Rocket to Riches which you can get by going here: It has a zillion ideas and budgets, etc. and what to sell online, etc. Also, an eBay store only costs 14.95 a month. The main thing about eBay is pick a niche' and focus. Build up your positive feedback by buying some products (even cheap ones). You really do not need any employees because with eBay you can automate everything - even your replies. You will need a PayPal premier business account. And it has lots of merchant and auction tools for free. Hope this helps and hasn't been too confusing. A good place for research is actually your local library. They have tons of eBay business books and software.

What are some ideas for a research argumentative paper about twilight?
Q. My english teacher assigned us a 10 page research paper on argumentative subjects. She told us it had to be something we enjoy, and i love the twilight books. So i need some suggestions for topics I could write about, maybe even how romantic novels are affecting teens perspective on life? I want to show my interest for twilight in this paper but have a good argument to support it. Help please!

A. There are many that say the reason for Twilight's appeal is the lack of both self esteem and a consistent father figure in many teen/tween's lives: 1. Raising Your Child's Inner Self-Esteem: The Authoritative Guide from Infancy through the Teen Years by Karen Owens. 2. How much research is required to write a book?
Q. I've been asking how much research and plot planning I could do for my first book. It's fantasy romance, so I won't have to look up history or anything like that. So, what do you think? Also, what are some good ways to organize my plot out on paper? ~thanks <3
Asked by evil_bunnyslippers - Wed Jul 15 23:59:20 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are generally two ways of writing, and both work well. One is stream of consciousness with no outline, letting the characters tell the story while you listen; and the other is to outline each chapter and then write stream of consciousness along your general outline. Unless your fantasy romance is set now, and in a place you know very well, you will need to do research to make your story believable to your audience. Always assume that your audience knows at least as much as you do about your subject.

What would be a good research paper topic with any theme about war, religion, history?
Q. I need a research topic for a collegiate level research paper for my english class. I have interest in war, religion, and/or its effect on the history of a certain place. If not, what other social issues could I talk about in the Philippines. Hopefully there would be a lot of sources so I could make a long one because this would be a major paper. Thanks!
Asked by Jess - Wed Dec 10 08:12:16 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well, religion might be good topic, as the Philippines have a major religion: Catholic. This could make your research easier. On that research, you could discuss about the first time that religion came, how it was spread, the figures behind this spreading Other topic is to make a research about their language, Tagalog. This will be interesting because this paper is from English class. So, you might make about the comparing how was the English spread and how was the Tagalog spread.

A. There are two Yahoo groups that can help you get a lot of information into EXCEL from the web: The first group has files in the library that use combinations of VBA and web queries to get information into EXCEL. The discussion board can also be very helpful in helping you find specific solutions. The second one is my group. In the files area, you can find a free open-source EXCEL add-in, documentation, and templates that can grab information from the web using user-defined functions. One good source for an enormous amount of quarterly and annual financial data is AdvFN. For example, on IBM: Click on the "Annual Reports" and "Quarterly Reports" button for the detailed info. There is also a "data downloads" button on that page… [cont.]
