Where can I find information on creating lesson plans?
Q. I would like information on creating lesson plans. I am a Social Studies Education student in Georgia. I know I'm going to have to create my own lesson plans. I would like information on websites or books that will give me the information I need to create my own effective lesson plans. Think "beginner." Thanks for your help.

A. Go to the Education Library on your campus. They'll have lots of resources relating to lesson planning, and probably some workbooks with sample lesson plans you can copy and fill in yourself. However, this sort of thing should be covered in the part of your program that deals with curriculum and/or classroom management. I'm sure your profs will have lots of good info for you when the time comes. Keep the following things in mind when making your lesson plans: WHAT are the learning objectives of the lesson? HOW will the students meet the objectives? WHO will complete the activities? WHEN will they do the work? WHY are they doing this activity / learning this information? I am doing a unit on The Algonquin Round Table - can anyone give me ideas for lesson plans?
Q. I am trying to incorporate the works of Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley and Robert Sherwood. Has anyone ever done a unit like this? I need some help for the lesson plans. Thanks!

A. Heh. I wonder what they would have said about Yahoo Answers. About all I can think of is to simply have the students read their stories. Most are short and fairly straightforward. But I wonder if you're prepared to deal with the writers, instead of the writings. None of these folks was ever rumored to be particularly happy, and a lot of alcohol was served there at the Algonquin. It is interesting, however, that while most writers are solitary creatures and unable to take much solace in the company of others, especially other writers, these people were able to keep each company for as long as they did. Perhaps there's something there that's worth examining.

Does the Texas DPS check the lesson plans for the parent taught course 101?
Q. I'm going to the DPS today to take my permit test and I was wondering do i need to bring along my dad's lesson plans? Will they check them?

A. I'm not aware of any such requirement. Just out of curiosity, did you call the DPS and ask them? It seems odd to me that you're relying on the advice of strangers on Yahoo Answers when a simple 30 second call to the DPS would solve the issue.
