Algebra is the branch of mathematics concerning the study of the rules of operations and the things which can be constructed from them, including terms, polynomials, equations and algebraic structures. Together with geometry, analysis, combinatorics, and number theory, algebra is one of the main branches of pure mathematics. Elementary algebra is often part of the curriculum in secondary education and introduces the concept of variables representing numbers. Statements based on these variables are manipulated using the rules of operations that apply to numbers, such as addition. This can be done for a variety of reasons, including equation solving. Algebra is much broader than elementary algebra and studies what happens when different rules of operations are used and when operations are devised for things other than numbers. Addition and multiplication can be generalised and their precise definitions lead to structures such as groups, rings and fields. From Wikipedia under the

Are there any good websites for tutorials? It's been years I really don't have the skills to teach her. Asked by rsf - Fri May 4 16:35:25 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. Algebra is the use of simple equations and variables to solve a problem. Geometry uses these equations and variables and applies then with various theorems to shapes. Algebra II is more complex equations and can deal with several variables in one problem. Hope that helps. As far as tutoring see if the school offers it, and if not then you can go to www.algebra.com or try sylvan, i have heard they are good. I am a college student taking Pre-Calculus and want to brush up (try and perfect) my algebra skills. I also want to have something that is more interactive to study pre-cal and calculus with. I am a Pre-Engineering student, freshman. I don't mind repeated activities, especially if I am able to try out multiple stuff and see where I was wrong. Basically anything that offers practice, especially if it includes interactive instruction to complement my college classes. Thanks in advance. Q. like in elementary algebra were factoring polynomials, so would we just get a completely different topic in the next level of math, a more complex polynomial to factor, or just learning different rules for factoring polynomials for example, any information with regards to comparing any other topics in the two levels of algebra would be great to hear about too. In the next level of algebra, you will learn about functions other than polynomials, such as exponential functions, logarithms, conic sections, and trig functions. You will also learn more about polynomials. You might also learn about complex numbers and matrices. When I was in Algebra II, I remember there was a lot of focus on conic sections which include hyperbolas, parabolas, and ellipses.
