Q. I have a bachelor's degree in chemistry, not mathematics. However, I am interested in teaching math at the secondary level in California. What steps must I go through in order to become qualified to teach high school math in CA? Asked by AEM - Fri Oct 3 14:12:52 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. It would seem that you don't need a bachelor's in math, just to pass a proficiency test. You will need a teaching credential. Granted, this is only for the 5-year preliminary certification, but surely you can get the rest of it together in that time. Answered by MavistheMaven - Fri Oct 3 14:27:40 2008 Can I teach a high school math class with a minor in math? Q. I am majoring in Aerospace Engineering and minoring in math. I would like to teach High School math when I am in graduate school. Is this possible with a minor in math? Asked by nick v - Wed Sep 17 11:32:04 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. YES! Don't listen to those who say you can't. As long as you're willing to be a substitute teacher, or work in some of the worst inner city schools out there, you're as good as in. The Frederick Douglass High School in inner city Baltimore was recently featured on an HBO documentary. It was revealed the 2/3 of those teaching there, are not certified teachers. Of course the turnover is so high, no one will usually stay long. For your own safety though, it'd be best if you were at least a 2nd degree black belt in karate or some form of martial arts. Q. Im a high school senior and I want to which high school math course should I take pre cal or college algebra? At the University of Houston you need to take college algebra to take pre cal but I not sure if I take pre cal in high school (not taking AP) will I still have to take college algebra or can I just clep pre cal and move on straight to calculus. Please help me I appreciated any help. Asked by Bender - Mon Jun 8 02:06:11 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. College algebra is the equivalent (in one semester) of two years of high school algebra - algebra I and II. If you've already taken those, and you should have if an option is pre-calc, then there's no point in taking it. Just take pre-calc if you can. That should let you move on to calculus in college without having to CLEP it. Answered by eri - Mon Jun 8 02:22:48 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "High School Math" 66% of Isle schools miss goal
