whats new and exciting in maths?
Q. I am a complete mathematics dunbo but I love the stories like feeding that simultaneous quadratic equation back into itself and creating fractals and chaos. I love it when maths stops being predictable - is this at the edge of maths and physics disciplines ? - I dont understand it but I love the stories are there any new ones?

A. There's a ton of really exciting stuff out there! This is a really great time to be a mathematician, perhaps even one of the best times in history (though it just keeps getting better and better). Unfortunately a lot of the really cutting edge stuff is so mind-numbingly technical that you need a PhD in mathematics just to understand the basic questions that people are working on. But there are a couple of things that happened pretty recently which are easier to sink your teeth into. Primes in arithmetic progression: An arithmetic progression is a sequence of integers a1, a2, a3,..., an whose differences are all equal to the same number d; a2 - a1 = d, a3 - a2 = d,..., an - a(n-1) = d. A. DNA forms spontanelously from nucleotides. Its is the laws of chemistry that create the code. A sting of DNA means nothing on its own. It takes tRNA, mRNA and a host of enzymes co-factors and amino acids to make sense of it all. It all points to the bearded man in the sky I think. Pink lemur. As a scientist I make proteins that work very well every week. DNA can be made, I make DNA to encode my proteins. Nucleotide bases can be made by chemists. Those I have not actually made myself.
