Colorado ( /kɒləˈrædoʊ/ (help·info) or /kɒləˈrɑːdoʊ/ (help·info)) is a U.S. state located in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States of America. It may also be considered to be part of the Western and Southwestern regions of the United States. Colorado entered statehood in 1876 and was nicknamed the “Centennial State”. It is bordered to the north by Wyoming, to the south by New Mexico and Oklahoma, at the southwest corner by Arizona, to the east by Nebraska and Kansas and to the west by Utah. The state is well known for its magnificent scenery of mountains, rivers and plains. The United States Census Bureau estimates that the state population was 4,939,456 in 2008, a 14% increase since the U.S. Census 2000. Denver is the capital of Colorado and the state's most populous city. Residents of Colorado are properly known as "Coloradans", although the archaic term "Coloradoan" is still used. GNU Free Documentation License Why does gas in Colorado have lower octane? Q. I just drove from CO to IL. In colorado, the regular fuel is 85 octane and in every other state I drove through (Nebraska, Iowa, IL) the regular fuel is 87 octane. Why is it lower in Colorado? Also, is it bad for my car to use 85 octane fuel? Asked by Quake22 - Sun Aug 19 23:00:16 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. There are very few states which still have an 85 octane rating. The oil and gas indistrues claim we can use the 85 octane fuels because of the higher elevations here in Colorado. We have less oxygen in the air, so the lower octane fuels burn off easier, so say the manufacturers. It's debatable as to whether or not the 85 vs 87 or higher octane will hurt your car. In the long run, using a lower octane fuel leaves more sediments and deposits in you car, so it's highly possible if used at ever fill-up, it might. Although I've lived here most of my life, but have not yet noticed my cars kicking off any sooner than other people in neighboring states, so I'm not really convinced. Q. My husband & I only had a 1 night honeymoon in town & we are wanting to get away next year for a real honeymoon in Colorado. I would like a remote romantic place that is not too pricey. I'm kind of thinking of a quaint little place/area in the mountains but not too far from things to do. Can anyone share their experiences? Asked by melljw777 - Sat Jul 21 01:00:57 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. If I wanted to go on a romantic getaway in Colorado, I would look in the southwest mountains. Durango is a nice medium-sized town with lots of nice outdoor activities and a few places to eat. If you want smaller, check out Ouray, Lake City, Creed, or Silverton. You could even look into Telluride, but if you want inexpensive, try the off season (not the ski season, and not a festival weekend). Find a place close to a hot spring (Ouray has one, and there are some close to Durango). Any time of year, nothing beats a sit in a hot spring.
