Missouri (pronounced /mɨˈzʊəri/ ( listen), and infrequently locally /mɨˈzʊərə/) is a state in the Midwest region of the United States bordered by Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska. Missouri is the 18th most populous state. It comprises 114 counties and one independent city. Missouri's capital is Jefferson City. The four largest urban areas are, in descending order, St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, and Columbia. Missouri was originally acquired from France as part of the Louisiana Purchase and became defined as the Missouri Territory. Part of the Missouri Territory was admitted into the union as the 24th state in August 10, 1821. Missouri mirrors the demographic, economic and political makeup of the nation with a mix of urban and rural culture. It has long been considered a political bellwether state. With the exception of 1860, 1956 and 2008, Missouri's results in U.S. presidential elections have accurately predicted the next President of the United States in every election since 1904. It has both Midwestern and Southern cultural influences, reflecting its history as a border state. It is also a transition between the eastern and western United States, as St. Louis is often called the "western-most eastern city" and Kansas City the "eastern-most western city." Missouri's geography is highly varied. The northern part of the state lies in dissected till plains while the southern part lies in the Ozark Mountains a (dissected plateau), with the Missouri River dividing the two. The confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers is located near St. Louis. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What are some great places to camp in Missouri? Q. My sister and I are planning a camping trip in June. This is the first time we will have gone camping in Missouri, so we really don't know where to look. Anywhere in the state would be fine. There will be four adults, two teenagers, and a 4 yr old. Some of the activities we would be interested in are fishing, floating, swimming, and hiking (not anything too extreme). We have looked on the state parks website but it's hard to really see what these places would be like, so I would appreciate any input anyone has to offer. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help us. Q. I live in Kansas, but I'm thinking about taking a job in Missouri, I have heard from a lot of people that if I do that then the taxes will be outrageous. But if you live in Missouri and work in Kansas they are about the same as Kansas residents. What is the difference between the two states and why is it so high? Asked by Bryce - Sat May 9 02:24:57 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. If you work in Missouri, then income earned while present i Missouri must be reported to Missouri. You will also report the same income to your resident state Kansas and claim credit for taxes paid to Missouri.
