A sphere (from Greek σφαίραsphaira, "globe, ball,") is a perfectly round geometrical object in three-dimensional space, such as the shape of a round ball. Like a circle in two dimensions, a perfect sphere is completely symmetrical around its center, with all points on the surface lying the same distance r from the center point. This distance r is known as the radius of the sphere. The maximum straight distance through the sphere is known as the diameter of the sphere. It passes through the center and is thus twice the radius.

In higher mathematics, a careful distinction is made between the surface of a sphere (referred to as a “sphere”), and the inside of a sphere (referred to as a “ball”). Thus, a sphere in three dimensions is considered to be a two-dimensional spherical surface embedded in three-dimensional Euclidean space, while a ball is a solid figure bounded by a sphere.

This article deals with the mathematical concept of a sphere. In physics, a sphere is an object (usually idealized for the sake of simplicity) capable of colliding or stacking with other objects which occupy space.

What is the final angular speed of the sphere?
Q. A solid sphere of radius R rotates about a diameter with an angular speed . The sphere then collapses under the action of internal forces to a final radius R/2. What is the final angular speed of the sphere?
Asked by JOHN A - Sun Jun 7 20:52:25 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I assume that this is a gravitational collapse as that experienced by the remnants of, say, a supernova explosion that would turn into a pulsar. Thus, I will assume that the initial mass remains the same. From conservation of angular momentum Angular Momentum = I1 w1 = I2 w2 where I and w are the moment of inertia and the angular velocities. The final angular velocity is w2 = I1 w1 / I2 = (2 m R1^2 / 5) w1 / (2 m R2^2 / 5) w2 = w1 (R1^2 / R2^2) = 4 w1 then the final angular speed is four times the initial angular speed.

How do you create an environment using a polygon sphere around your scene using Maya?
Q. We learned this way to create an environment by creating our scene and then placing a polygon sphere around the scene to create an environmental lighting, but I don't know how to do it. Can someone help me with it? Thanks in advance.

A. Usually that is created in the beginning...then use the lighting tool to position where the light is coming from after you have your scene/figure created.

A. r = d/2 = 6 cm volume V =(4/3) (r ) =(4/3) (6 ) 905cm ::: volume V =(b)(w)(h) =(3x)(3x)(3x) =27x cm 27x = 1728 x = 64 x = 4 ::: r = 20/2 = 10 units V =(4/3) (r ) =(4/3)(3.14)(10 ) 4186.67cu. units ::: V = r h =(22/7)(6 )(14) =1584cu. units
