What is the general average age of people staying in European Youth Hostels? Are High School Students Common?
Q. I'm headed to Europe this summer and would like to know if hostels are a safe option for me to stay in. I will be 17 when in Europe.

A. Hostels are fantastic. They are such a great way to meet people, and they're cheap, and usually safe. Some suggestions: -Always carry a lock or two with you. Some hostels give you lockers, so you can be certain your stuff is safe with your own lock. If they don't, ask if they can store your bags behind the desk or in a secure room while you're out. Also, even if there's a checkout time, you can usually leave your luggage with the hostel for the day. -Have one of those quick-drying towels, even if it's a small hand-size one...some nice hostels have things like towels included...many don't, and many will "rent" you a towel. -Bedding--lots of hostels don't have any bedding. The nicer ones (which are also more expensive and "official"… [cont.]
