Is there anyway I can get my teacher to write an an Accelerated Reader quiz and give it to me the next day?
Q. I have The Godfather and I only figured out yesterday that there is absolutely no Accelerated Reader quiz for it. Is there anyway I can get my teacher to write a quiz for it and give me the quiz the next day?
Asked by Richard - Sun Oct 28 18:52:35 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Richard, Your teacher probably read The Godfather years ago, if at all. I occasionally will make an AR quiz for a book; if I have plenty of warning. I could make an AR quiz on a picture book in your time frame. You will probably have better luck if you ask your teacher to make the quiz on her/his own time frame. By the by, if this book is in our school library. Maybe someone else has had this problem. Do you have a central bank of tests. If not check around with some other teachers. At my school the teacher for gifted and talented students make lots of extra tests.

What are the accelerated reader quizzes like?
Q. I have to take these quizzes over the summer for the books we read and was wondering if anyone else had taken them before. I just would like to know what to expect from them, like what type of questions will be asked. Also, if you could provide an example of what an average accelerated reader question would ask that would be awesome. Thanks!
Asked by Matt A - Sun Jul 12 13:38:25 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I haven't taken these in a long time, but I'll try to help you out. All of the questions are plot based, which means that it will ask you about the specific events in the story, nothing else. If you know the story line, you will be absolutely fine when taking it.

Asked by Rachel M - Mon Jul 21 14:28:54 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is not a website to test. The software to test has to be purchased and a lot of schools have it. You can go to websites to read about AR or search for AR books, but you may not test unless you log on at a school that owns the program.

A. Lord of the Flies is an allegorical novel by Nobel Prize-winning author William Golding. It discusses how culture created by man fails, using as an example a group of British school-boys stuck on a deserted island who try to govern themselves with disastrous results. Its stances on the already controversial subjects of human nature and individual welfare versus the common good earned it position 70 on the American Library Association's list of the 100 most frequently challenged books of 1990 2000

What are the answers to the Accelerated Reading quiz for the book Twilight by Stephanie Meyer?
Q. Tomorrow is the end of the quarter and I'm not at my A.R. goal for anyone that knows what that is. Please help. I'm a very good reader, I'm just always busy so I didn't get to finish it by tomorrow and I've never got lower than a 'b' and I'm not about to. Help.
Asked by Becca - Fri Jan 16 00:34:06 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Wow, I can't believe your teacher gave you Twilight for homework. Could have used a book with more substance. So its just the first book right? And you say that you are a good reader. So go read the book (use www.scribd.com if you don't have one) and try to finish as much as you can. And then later you can read the summaries on wiki, so that you know what happens in the part you are not able to complete. Make sure you read the biographies on the characters too, esp the villians...and you'll do fine.

Frustrated about the Accelerated Reader program?
Q. Am I the only parent frustrated about the Accelerated Reader program? My daughter's AR tests are 30% of her grade. There is no leeway. If she doesn't pass, she doesn't get credit for the reading the book - it just pulls down her %. How is that motivating? What happened to the days of book reports? How about teachers require book reports when the student does not pass the AR test, so the student can pull their grade up? This seems like pure laziness to me. It's extremely frustrating. I read these books with my daughter, quiz her, etc. We do everything we can do help her pass. This is very upsetting to both of us and it has become impossible for me to keep her motivated to read. I am so frustrated I could scream!
Asked by Chatterbox - Tue Sep 30 00:15:36 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The questions are quite tricky on there and I have had many students that do no pass alot of them. They seem to ask for tiny details that the students should remember. I don't know about them remembering though! We do not count the AR as part of the grade, for that very reason you are stating. Each level is required to reach a certain point level. If they do not reach it, they get a comment on their report card that says needs improvement in independent reading. So basically all that is there is the comment, but the actual grade is not affected. If a student really wants to read a book that is not AR, we allow them to do so and they have to do a book report. In my 4 years, I have not had a student do that though. My students are… [cont.]

A Quiz for The Lightning Thief?
Q. My daughter is in the 4th grade and is close to finishing The Lightning Thief. I'd like to give her a little quiz to see it she has really understood the book. An Accelerated Reader(AR) type test would be good. True/False or multiple choice is perfect. I am back in school myself as an English major and have tons of books to read so I don't have time to read it myself. Does anyone know of a website where I could find questions for her?

A. I love that book but I don't know of a website. But I could make one up for you. Here it is. Why does Percy have to change schools so often? Who is Cheron? And why is he in a wheelchair. Why does Grover walk funny? What does Percy's pen do? Who is Annabelle's mother and why does she stay at Camp Halfblood all year round? Who is Luke? What happens to Percy when he meets the Oracle? Why does everyone think Percy is so special? Why does Zeus hate him? What quest was given to Percy? Who is Percy's father? What do Ambrosia and Nectar do to help halfbloods? Why is Grover so protective of Percy? Who actually has the stolen Lightening Bolt? Who set Percy up? What happens after Percy finds the lightening bolt? What does Percy… [cont.]

Twilight- Summary of book?
Q. I was hoping for some extra info on the book. Just things to jot down to refresh my memory to prepare me for my quiz. I am planning to take an Accelerated Reader (AR) quiz on Monday for school. I just need some detailied summaries to help. I do not want to forget the book, but I would like to do well on the quiz. If there is anything that you could share with me that might help me on my test, or at least prepare me for it. Thanks in advanced. And also, if you could do the same for New Moon that would be great too. Ten Points will go to the answer that has helped the most, including their answers to New Moon as well. Thanks.

A. If you're asking where you can take a test in preparation for the real thing, then the answer is that you can't. That would be cheating. Believe me, I've thought about that before. This isn't some program you can just download off the internet. You can only take it at school on their computers.

A. i hated it and stopped halfway through. it never gets good. summary of book (incase you don't want to read it, yet need to have an idea of what it's about): 14-year-old Will Burrows has little in common with his strange, dysfunctional family. In fact, the only bond he shares with his eccentric father is a passion for archaeological excavation. So when Dad mysteriously vanishes, Will is compelled to dig up the truth behind his disappearance. He unearths the unbelievable: a secret subterranean society. "The Colony" has existed unchanged for a century, but it's no benign time capsule of a bygone era--because the Colony is ruled by a cultlike overclass, the Styx. Before long--before he can find his father--Will is their prisoner...
