What activities would you like your kids to participate in?
Q. What type of activity would you consider is important to your kids between age 3 to 10? Are you willing to sign them up for group outdoor activities organized by private individual in Singapore, such as treasure hunt, nature walk, etc. Or do you think art & craft is more interesting? How much are you willing to pay for each activity? And how long should the duration be?

A. My 7 year old son was in flag football when he was 5. Tried it out and after the season, decided he didn't like it. Now he is 7 and is in soccer and just LOVES it. My daughter is 4 and she hasn't tried anything yet, but I think she wants to do something in gymnastics. Whatever my kids are willing to try (like sports, dance, music etc.) I will encourage it. If they do not want to, then I will not force it. For my son to play soccer it cost us $45 and that included the uniform we get to keep. That $45 is for the whole soccer season of August thru November.

A. No particular activity is better than another. How well you do at whatever it is is what counts. Elite schools are after molding future leaders, so rising to a leadership position like president, Secretary or treasurer will help a lot. Don't do a heap - go for 'quality' instead in the few you do. Thanks Bill

A. If they're happy and also have regular downtime to do what they want/ play with friends/ be outside then they're fine. I'm a big supporter of unstructured time, but anyone who tells you there's some set number of activities that's "too many" doesn't realize how different kids can be. I know what you mean about driving back and forth. I have four and I try to schedule activities together (like simultaneous swim lessons) or on weekends or evenings when my husband is home so that I don't have to drag all the kids along to another kid's activity. My younger kids do 2 activities in the morning when the older ones are at school, and the older ones have a total of 3 activities (totaling 2 hours a week) all split between Thursday afternoon… [cont.]

What activities and crafts are good for the elderly at a nursing home?
Q. I just got asked to fill in for thier activities director. I am not sure where to start. I have been doing some research but not coming up with much. Could anyone help me?

A. My Mum and Sister both manage "Retirement Flats" and from what they've said, if you can find someone who can play the piano or something, that's a good start. Their old ladies love a good sing-song. I'm sure a lot of the elderly people there will have great sewing skills, so what about making a patchwork quilt together? If each person sews a square then everyone could get involved. I'll have to ask my Mum for any more tips.

What activities would an Alaskan malamute succeed in?
Q. I have three Alaskan malamutes at home. They are two males and a female. They are 1 year old and have been very bored lately. Because of the hot weather and there heavy coats I don't know what to enroll them in to get them working throughout the whole year. I want them to experience new activities and have fun. What can I do? Also, i need sports to go all round. I do sled pulling and weight pulling in the winter but I don't know what to do in the summer spring or fall!

A. Since you have winter sports, how about a summer sport like Dock Diving? That way it keeps the dog cool, as Malamutes have a lot of coat and overheat easily. Obedience, or Rally (which is more fun) can be done indoors all year round and don't require the speed of agility of flyball.

A. The gym isn't the only place where you can exercise. There are plenty of FREE things you can do. Some include: running outside, climbing stairs, biking, trail hiking, swimming, etc. Many community centers also offer inexpensive group classes, which solves the problem of not having a buddy, if you like to exercise in a social setting that is. You should check out your local Y. Also, sex is a great way to burn calories.

A. Do a lesson with air, land and water and the vehicles that travel there. space - you can get foods to taste from a space museum if you are close to one or can write to one and order. We did that once and it was very interesting to allow the children to taste this dried food -even ice cream! And we got a huge box to make a rocket ship - we put computer keyboards in there and their creativity took over from there.

Q. I need some good activities for kinders/preschoolers that have anything to do with air transportation (helicopters, airplanes, rocket ships, etc.) I need it for my kinders, but can't tihnk of anything. I would also like some music and movement, does anyone know any songs the are child-friendly where they can pretend to be something. But any kind of activity is good.
