How can get an office administrative position without experience?
Q. I have a college office administrative certificate from several years ago. I have not worked at that field. I have worked odd jobs like food services, customer services but not office administrative. Please don't send me any spam.
Asked by Ana S - Sat Dec 13 10:16:02 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Visit an employment agency - take a skills test to see what your strengths are. Try to identify the areas you are weak in and what you think you have to contribute. Definitely get smart on Word, Office, Excel etc - you can do this from home. also get registered at your local workforce agency and take advantage of all the workshops they offer. Don't put too much expectations on online job boards - you need to physically apply and sell your strengths. Customer service/public contact might be a field you could intitally pursue. Working one-on-one with customers is valuable to most companies.

what is the difference between an administrative assistant and an office clerk?
Q. I have been trying to apply to an administrative position but have only experience as a clerk and I haven't gotten too many call backs. So, just wondering if the two aren't similar with experience.
Asked by R.P - Thu Jan 10 20:06:40 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Office clerk is usually a person who does clerical work, like posting accounts receivable, vouchering accounts payable, posting to various journals of original entry such as asset books, sales journals, payroll books, time sheets, etc. An administrative assistant can be a secretary to a department head, executive secretary to any officer of the company or assistant to the sales manager who keeps the sales staff informed of upcoming events, meetings, seminars, etc.

What should I wear for an administrative assistant interview?
Q. There's this administrative assistant position on a university campus career center. What should I wear for the interview? I'm a male. Do I have to wear a suit? Can I just wear nice dress pants, shirt and a tie instead? And what should I bring? A notebook folder for my resume or a shoulder bag? I like your answers, I'm real nervous so if u have more advice and detailed tips on what I should or ahouldn't do please tell me! It's my first job in the real world after college. ok, some of u are saying i need to wear a suit. do i take it off for the interview or leave it on?
Asked by skyofsilence - Tue Jul 31 17:47:04 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. A suit isn't necessary for this, but if you have one that's appropriate, why not impress them? Also, I think a business portfolio is best, but maybe that's the same as a notebook folder. A shoulder bag may not make the right impression at a university if students commonly use them as book bags.

what administrative types of positions are offered to people with an MS degree in Agribusiness Management?
Q. I have a MS in Agribusiness Management, but i want to pursue a different career in the administrative field. I know they don't make a lot of money, but my passion is organizing, typing, and other administrative type of duties. Can you give me some pointers as to which direction i should take. Right now, i'm at home with my two toddlers. I would love to get back in the corporate world and have some type of flexibility so i can be with my family more.

A. If you have the skills that the company needs, you should be able to get a job anywhere that has an administrative position available if you can convince them that you are the best person for the job. The difficulty you might have is with "flexibility". Most businesses have set hours that you would need to work. You might be fortunate enough to work a deal with a local business for flexible hours. Some businesses you might consider: You local ag extension office Local college or university (especially in the Ag department) USDA Manufacturing companies Feedlots Seed companies Assistant to a cotton ( or other commodity) broker The first four will be more difficult to work a flexible schedule. Temporary work through a temporary/personn [cont.]

What is the difference between Administrative and Management?
Q. If you kindly provide explanation on the difference of Administrative and Management.
Asked by Mujeeb N - Sat Jul 14 02:39:40 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You could be looking at two words that have different meanings depending on the English or American usage. Generally speaking administration has more to do with things and detail whereas management can be wider dealing with people and an overview of all aspects of a task. You can manage people but you do not administer people to give an example. However when the Americans use the word you hear them talk of the Bush administration - which gives the word a wider meaning than I think it is used in English
