airbag deployment question?
Q. To be more specific driver side curtain airbag deployment, while driving on a freeway about 100km/hr. There was no accident to cause the airbag to come out. Dealership claims that the cause is front passenger under-body damage (to be specific cross-member damage on the passenger side) -passenger airbag never came out. I have found 2 edr codes indicating short circuit. car has no physical damage, no dents, no scratches. 2 years ago the same car run over something on the freeway ripping the windshield fluid bottle off (which happens to be also located at the front passenger side) Dealership is claiming that there is a collision code in the event data recovery system ...is it possible that this code was recorded because computer 'thought'… [cont.]

A. I doubt it. If there is nothing physically wrong with the car, I think it would be the maker's fault. It could have short circuit.

The instrument panels lights on 97 Dodge pickup have gone dark. What could be the problem?
Q. The fuse is good. The switch is functioning normally. The indicator lights such as "Brake", "Airbag", etc all light up at ignition time. I'm thinking the circuit sheet on the back of the cluster may be bad. Is there anything else to check?

A. are you sure switch is functioning normally. everthing else works? ive seen this before, all works except dash lights and it was the swicth, many times. its about the only thing that could cause all the dash lights to go out at once other than the fuse.

Honda Audio?
Q. I have been to Best Buy, Circuit City, and two local stereo shops in town. I have been told by all four that they cannot and will not change out any Honda audio including speakers. There were several reasons but generally the same, the cars ABS, Airbags, and something else is wired into the stereo system. You have to obtain some sort of adaptor from Honda at about $130 for each speaker you want to swap out. Has anyone been able to swap out speakers or the stereo in a 2007 Civic?

A. you want a real system, you go to a real shop, if they REALLY know what they are doing, they can do it. its called "custom" for a reason. ive been a mechanic/car builder for bout 10 years now. if you got a little money to throw around a good shop could do it for bout... $200 for decent deck $150 in adapters(should only need 2-3, most new cars run circuits together.)* $300 speakers and wire, boxes(if equipped with subs also), etc $150-250 for labor(depending on shop) so for between $800-1050 you could get a deceent set-up. *(most circuits in the car can also be "overridden" by removing fuses and "looping" the wire circuit.)

A. With all the listed mods, and how much that car's listed for, I would reconsider buying it. It's just too much money involved when something breaks. If something does, OEM parts won't do it because of the million aftermarket parts that was put in it. Unless you have plenty of money to burn in repairs, DON'T. And besides, how much miles was put in this car???...exactly! This car probably has seen too much racing circuits and strips and needed to be retired too!!! Think about it.
