How can I get help with pre-algebra and algebra? I failed the algebra 2x and need help?
Q. I need to pass algebra to go forward in getting my degree. I passed pre - algebra and failed algebra 2x. It's been so long since I took the courses that I need to refresh pre-algebra. I am hoping to find something on line.

A. Your university should have tutoring areas or references to help you out. Why don't you search on yahoo or google to help find answers in a particular part of pre-algebra or algebra. Last but not least, find a "Algebra for Dummies" book for additional help.

Whats the difference between algebra 2 regulars and algebra 2 honors?
Q. Im a freshman right now, and im in geometry, and well i have all honors class, and i was thinking about going into honors algebra 2 next year but is it really a lot harder than regular algebra 2?

A. In Algebra II Honors, you move through the material at a more rapid pace than you would in regular Algebra II. Plus, there is more homework and more assigned homework problems in Algebra II Honors. Also, in both classes, you have grades for exams and homework; in Algebra II Honors, I believe the exams are weighted more towards your grade. When I took Algebra II in high school, 80% of our grade was based on exams and 20% of our grade was based on homework. The weight of the exams towards your grade in regular Algebra II should be a lot lower. Overall, Algebra II Honors is not a lot harder than regular Algebra II, but it is just a tad challenging. If you pay attention in class, do your homework, and study really hard for the exams, you… [cont.]

Why do you need linear algebra for graduate work in psychology?
Q. I am told that first year linear algebra is required for graduate work in psychology. Can anyone offer any insight as to why?
Asked by Sdf - Mon Oct 12 20:05:29 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. No, not really. Psychology is a soft science, so it there's not much math to it. But really, everyone should know algebra. Math is a good thing to know for practical problems for instance, balancing your budget when you live on your own. Maybe in order for it to be a science degree you need some math?

What is the best way to memorize pre algebra equations?
Q. I am 46 years old and I decided to go back to college. I am in a pre algebra course. I never took any kind of algebra in school. I dropped out in the 9th grade and went back a year later and got my GED. So this is very new to me and I need some help. Some of it is just basic math but now it is getting to some problems like 7(2x+1) or 5(x+6). When i get to trying to solve problems, I get lost on the way to the answer. I know that there is an easy way to do these kind of problems but I get lost in the showing the work on the way to the answer. Does that make any kind of sense? A. I was the same age as you when I started to go back to school, I began with math 081 and am a Junior in college now. Here are some tips for your success: 1. Take notes and ask questions. Nothing is "dumb" every question no matter what it is will help somebody else that is too shy to ask it. 2. Get a study partner. Try to study with somebody that is more advanced than you or are on the same level. If there is a student in your class that is not getting it at all...put them on your team, you will get better because you will help them understand what you know and in the end that will help you do better. 3. Do all the questions. Do the ones not assigned. 4. Review your tests and go over the questions that you got wrong. 5. Get… [cont.]

What is the difference between pre-calc and algebra?
Q. I am halfway through my college level algebra course and i wanted to know what im getting into because i have pre-calc next semester. So, what is pre-calc generally about? How does is differ from algebra?

A. in precalc. you do lots of trigonometry, analytical geometry, matrices, probabi lity, vectors, Elementary functions( polynomial functions, rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions) It is harder than algebra I and algebra II, but easier than linear algebra. Precalculus uses many techniques in algebra, so make sure you have a good foundation in algebra!

What college course is equivalent to high school algebra?

A. since course requirements vary from school to school to school, I cannot tell you what course to take. However, I would advise that you speak with your counselor. Set up an appointment with him or her to develop a course curriculum. This will take about an hour to complete. Your counselor will help you figure out which courses you need to take, and in what order. He/she will also help you find out what the course numbers are for all of your required courses, and may even help get you registered.

What is the difference between Algebra I and Algebra II?
Q. It seems to me that they are the same, except that Algebra II expands on a couple of concepts like parabolas.
Asked by aaronmk2 - Fri Nov 21 13:15:10 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Algebra 1 is the basics and then when you get to Algebra 2, you must remember everything from algebra 1 because it goes more complex into things that you did in Algebra 1. For example, you will get more variables added into problems so it will take longer to solve. Also, word problems are used more in Algebra 2 to prepare you for real life situations.

A. Algebra is the use of simple equations and variables to solve a problem. Geometry uses these equations and variables and applies then with various theorems to shapes. Algebra II is more complex equations and can deal with several variables in one problem. Hope that helps. As far as tutoring see if the school offers it, and if not then you can go to www.algebra.com or try sylvan, i have heard they are good.

how important is it to know algebra to be able to do geometry?
Q. My daughter is in 9th grade geometry and has not had algebra. She is having a difficult time. Her counselor says that you do not need algebra to do geometry. She says it is a different kind of math and that's why the 9th graders have trouble with it.

A. There isn't a whole lot of algebra in geometry, so your daughter should be able to do okay. I would still have recommended taking algebra first, though. The best person to ask about this is her math teacher. He/she would have the best understanding of exactly what a student needs to know in order to do well in the class.
