What is the difference between being alive and being dead?
Q. As for know, most people think there is an afterlife. So what's the difference between being alive and being dead. Maybe there is no alive maybe were just thought waves, floating through nothing, changing from person to person through out history. But, why do you think we hear, taste, feel and see all the same things. Don't you think each thought wave would be differently thought out.

A. if you're stuggeling to find justification for the existence of anything external to your own mind, surely you should be skeptical of an afterlife, there's even less proof for that... but the question of external objects is still open, we might be in the matrix :) there's not concrete way to prove the existence external objects

how do u keeps bulbs alive during the winter?
Q. i have daffodil bulbs that i'm not planning on planting this year, how do u keep them alive during the winter? thx - w/out putting them in a pot if possible
Asked by Dajik - Wed Jun 17 17:33:43 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This might not be the right thing to do but I had some bulbs which I just wrapped in paper an kept in a drawer, they were fine! It might be a one off but bulbs are pretty hardy and designed to stay dormant over the winter anyway, they should be fine like this. Wrap them up individually though, that way if one goes rotten it won't spread to the others.

How do you keep a flower alive while outside in the cold for a few hours?
Q. Okay here's the situation. I'm planning to leave a flower on the windshield of my girlfriend's car for valentine's day while she's in classes. I would put it in the car but she locks it. I was thinking of putting under the wiper blades. But the thing is, if it's left outside in the cold (perhaps negitive numbers) for a few hours is there anything I could/should do to keep it alive?
Asked by Steve C - Mon Feb 5 22:47:23 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I hate to rain on your parade, it's such a nice idea :-) Unfortunately, a flower at sub-zero temperatures is going to freeze very quickly; and worse yet, when it thaws, it's going to droop REALLY badly. The only think I can think of would be to wrap it REALLY well and put a heat pack in with it, like a chemical heat pack that you can buy at a camping store. Perhaps you could wrap it in clear plastic so that it could be seen, but so that the heat would be trapped. I ship and receive African violets all over the U.S. (I'm an amateur grower), and the type of heat pack I use is shown in the link below; there are also small ones like "Hot Hands" that you can get at most sporting goods stores. Happy Valentine's Day, and good luck!

How can I keep a large amount of crickets alive for more than a few weeks?
Q. Ok, so buying crickets in bulk is cheap, like you get 1000 for less than $20. The trouble is, my lizard only eats like 10 a day. So I would need to keep them alive for longer than a few days. Whenever I buy more than 30 from the petstore, I always get at least 10 that die within a week. So how can I keep them alive longer?
Asked by Hicktown girl66 - Sat Apr 28 12:41:38 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Keeping crickets 1. large deep tupperware or deep rubbermaid container 2. Put lots of air holes in the lid, or cut out a large portion of the lid and use a hot glue gun to glue some fine window screening material to the inside of the lid around the hole. 3. Fill the bottom of the container with a substrate of rolled oats or bran- couple of inches deep. The crickets will eat this. 4. Put one or two small shallow dishes in the bottom of the container - I use the tiny tinfoil pie plates. Fill these dishes with a half potato, a chunk of carrot and if you like a 1/4 to a 1/2 of an orange. Other veggies can be used- they will eat these and get their moisture from them so you may want to also sprinkle the veggies and fruit… [cont.]

A. To keep a goldfish alive, dont keep it in a bowl. 20 gallon tank, with a filter rated for 40 gallons, 25 percent water changes every week. That is how you keep a goldfish alive.

How do I keep my fish alive in my 14 gallon freshwater aquarium?
Q. I recently got a 14 gallon freshwater aquarium. After letting the tank filter out and reach 75 degrees (about 2 days), I started adding fish. I added about 9 fish in 2 days. They were all fine until about 2 days ago. They all died within 1 day of each other. This was about 3 weeks after I got the aquarium. How do I keep them alive? Also, what are some good fish to keep in it?

What do tree frogs do to stay alive during the winter?
Q. My Aunt has a family of tree frogs and she wants to know how they stay alive during the cold harsh winter.
Asked by yeehadukesboy - Mon Oct 8 11:21:05 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'm not sure where you live, but tree frogs in Australia live in the tropics where there is no winter, so they don't have to worry about it. Frogs and toads in cold climates bury themselves in winter, and go into a type of hibernation so they don't lose any heat.

A. Tomato plants can be grown inside, especially those that produce small "cherry-like" fruit. Keep them by a sunny window. Fertilize them every once and a while and water them, but don't overwater.

How does your digestive system help to keep your cells alive and healthy?
Q. How does your breathing system help you to keep your cells alive and healthy? How does yoru circulatory system help you keep your cells alive and healthy? Thanks for any helps
Asked by im_a_kutey - Mon Sep 1 04:40:33 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Your digestive system breaks down food into components that can be absorbed by your cells in your intestines. This provides energy and vitamins to your cells. Your respiratory system delivers oxygen and removes carbon dioxide wastes. The oxygen is necessary to complete cellular respiration and get energy out of molecules. Your circulatory actually brings the oxygen to your cells.

Asked by Will L - Mon Feb 18 18:53:50 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. At a max of 10 inches its gonna be abig fish, unless youve got about 55 gallons a big cycled external filter and can give it live feeders, worms etc id put it back. In fact its lived wild, and it sucks for it to be in captivity, just put it back. If you have no previous experience of keeping large predatory fish your chances of keeping it alive any length of time are practically nil. If you want a fish, learn about fishless cycling, get a tank set up well in advance, and choose a nice moderately sized species, preferably captive bred, that will suffer much less stress and be a better pet for you. A perch like that may be a viable large pondfish, but in an aquarium , youll probably just inadvertantly kill it . It would be a stretch to… [cont.]

What is the best way to keep brine shrimp alive longer without putting them is a fridge?
Q. I have got two gars of baby brine shrimp what is the best way to keep thees alive for at least 2 weeks.
Asked by Connar M - Wed Dec 10 15:12:28 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Putting brine shrimp in the fridge? Are you serious? If you really want to keep them alive longer to have a constant supply or let them grow a bit bigger, you need to keep them in a saltwater or brine solution. The exact proportion of salt is not very critical as they can live in water of varying salinity concentrations. Also use an air stone with an air pump to aerate & circulate the water, but not too vigorously; this helps them to get around to find food. I used those commercial liquid solutions for feeding baby fish but there's other stuff, Google for info. My brine shrimp not only grew obviously bigger but even started breeding.

How can I tell if the duck eggs are still alive?
Q. I have had these duck eggs for about tree weeks now and I don t know if they are still alive and when they might hatch or if I need to do anything different now that they have grown more.
Asked by LexyLuv - Sun Apr 13 20:33:58 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. well duck eggs take 28 days to hatch ( except muscovies ) and so if its been three weeks than you just have to wait about another week. You need to know exactly when you put them in the incubator b/c at day 25 you need to stop turning them. To see if they are still alive you can candle them and see if there are any veins in them, and even an embryo. I hope this helped! I am incubating 13 Cayuga duck eggs right now, and it is say 7 of incubationg, I can see the veins now and even a lil embryo, In some of the lighter colored eggs I can see the embryos heart beating. it is soo cool!

How do you know if a duck embryo is still alive at about 24 days?
Q. Someone mentioned that you should see the embryo moving but I don't see anything, is there a way I can find out for sure if the little guys are still alive?? Thanks! Is it bad that they aren't peeping or pecking yet? Could they still be okay?
Asked by Lauren - Wed May 14 23:00:01 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The only real way is to candle it. You will see a dark blob with veins, although the veins are harder to see as they get older. DONT throw the eggs out if you don't see movement. I could have sworn my mallard eggs were dead at 25 days, but I left them in to be safe, and sure enough, 3 days later, one of them hatched. I couldn't see any movement at day 25, but by day 28 the eggs peeped and wiggled when I picked them up. They won't start peeping untill right before they start hatching, so don't go by that. Just wait it out. Good luck!

How can i keep my hermit crab from the ocean alive?
Q. I found it in the ocean in corpus christi i wanna keep it but how do i keep it alive?
Asked by JasmineGee:) - Wed Jul 1 22:13:43 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A marine hermit crab has different requirements than a land hermit crab, the gills of a marine crab extract oxygen from the water they can only last short periods of time out of water, or until the tide comes in to cover them, just as a land hermit cannot survive under water. They both have different gills that perform differently to extract oxygen from its environment. You will need a marine aquarium to keep it in, but it takes a tank a month to cycle before it can house animals, Can you put it back? Lemonade is correct about what to do but before you get any more hermit crabs please do proper research so you will know its care requirements before you get it.

How does negative and positive feedback keep a hockey skater alive if he fell through the ice?
Q. Two hockey players aer skating on a frozen pond. One skater falls through the ice into the water. Explain how negative feedback can keep the skater who fell in alive. Explain how positive feedback can provide physical assistance to the friend trying to save him.
Asked by Erica O - Sun Apr 27 15:25:19 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Two kinds of system protect the skater who went through the ice. The first kind involves the body's homeostatic system, an array of negative-feedback loops that regulate the internal environment, including core temperature. A reduction in temperature will trigger increased metabolic activity to maintain a healthy temperature. The second kind, vasoconstriction, is not a feedback system but rather open-loop. This reduces heat loss by constricting the blood vessels at the body's surface. It is triggered by sensed external-environment coldness rather than core temperature reduction. As for the rescuer, this is more difficult. I suppose you could consider the use of an ice awl a kind of positive feedback. You jam it into the ice in such an… [cont.]
