GMC Envoy The ambient air temperature is stuck on 50 degrees?
Q. Sometimes it goes all the way down to 10, 20 degrees.. because of it, when I turn on the A/C, it doesn't get cold... takes a while for the temp to come back up to current temp very slowly, then the air gets colder.. Anybody has this type of problem?

A. yessir, you have an open in your ambient air temperature circuit. usually caused by a faulty sensor, but can also be caused by excessive corrosion on the sensor connector. the sensor is behind your grille, and is a 2 wire connection. unplug the connector and plug in a new sensor. this should take care of your problem.

Why don't we heat our houses using heat pumps from ambient air?
Q. The simplest of which could be a reworked freezer. With the compressor inside, the cooling coil outside, and the heat dump coil inside. If freezing of the outside coil is a problem, stick it in a crude solar panel made from a doubleglazed unit filled with antifreeze and black ink. The black antifreeze will absorb any solar gain, and the pumped heat will go straight into the house. This has to be more efficient than burning oil or gas - and losing most of the heat up the flue.

A. Many people do. An even more efficient method is the use of a geothermal heat pump that uses ground water as the heat source.

What is the ambient air standard for ozone and nitrogen oxides in % and parts per million?
Q. thanks

A. Do you mean, a legal standard? It would depend on where you are -- India? Ohio? France? "Pure" air has no ozone or nitrogen oxides. The United States EPA standard for ozone is 80 parts per billion, or less (0.00080 %). For NO2, it's 53 parts per billion.

Ambient Air Temperature Sensor?
Q. I have a 1993 ford taurus 3.8L V6 automatic GL. Can you tell me what the purpose of the "ambient air temperature sensor" is and can it cause your car to stall during "hot and humid" driving conditions? What is the connection between this sensor and your "air conditioning" system?

A. ambient air temperature or iat, intake air temperature. measures temperature of the air going into the engine so that the computer can calculate the density of the air to determine the amount of fuel that will need to be added. there is no connection between this sensor and the ac.

Q. Why is water always colder than the ambient air temperature?
Asked by adam w - Wed Feb 13 22:59:05 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It is not always, especially in wintertime. For example, lake effect snows are a result of cold air blown across the warmer waters of the Great Lakes. And at night, many times the air temperature over land will cool below the adjacent water temperatures, and can create land breezes.

LED Street Lights? Would they work at 50deg C ambient air temperature?
Q. Its typical in the middle east that air ambient temperature to touch 50 deg C and exposed metal temperature of upto 95deg C. Would a LED street light handle such high temperatures? Further, Does anyone know of a maufacturer / vendor who can LED street lights in the Middle East.
Asked by steve_51986 - Wed Apr 22 04:01:14 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes they would but you would have to offer a shade arrangement such as the double skin roof fitted to Safari Land Rovers. The lantern head would need to be shaded by this extra layer of heat reflective material with an air space between. The semiconductors, including the LED's would also require increased size heat sinks to dissipate the heat genetated into the elevated ambient air temperature.

ambient air quality?
Q. is there a difference between ambient air and, well, regular air quality? could you explain it?
Asked by Andrea W - Thu Feb 28 00:21:20 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. That's more or less what it means. The EPA has standards for ambient air quality which controls pollution for outdoor air. Most air purifiers refer to ambient air also, meaning the air in the room to be filtered. The same with heating and A/C so generally it means the environment someone or something is in. In this case, the room you put an air filter in is surrounded by ambient air. Room temp and ambient temp are interchangeable. Hope this helps.

What does an ambient air temperature sensor do? Does it affect performance if bad?
Q. A P0072 code shows in my check engine codes. It says Ambient Air Temperature Circuit Low. Is this solely the temperature that shows in my overhead console? It seems to read just about right, maybe a degree or 2 different from others on occasion. Does it affect my performance of my vehicle? It's been confused a couple times by others I've asked with the Intake Air Temperature Sensor. They are not the same. This one I've found is in my front grill of my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.0L 6cyl. Though I went ahead and replaced the Intake Air Temperature Sensor unnecessarily due to bad advice.
Asked by Samantha - Thu Apr 22 14:11:16 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If this is the sensor for the read out in your vehicle, it will have no effect on engine performance - nor should it set a check engine light. Only an input to the computer will do this. Since the code applies to two seemingly different concerns (P0072-inlet Air Temp Sensor Voltage Too Low - Ecm) (P0072-ambient Air Temperature Sensor Circuit Low) And you have eliminated the IAT sensor, I'd guess it's time to get a manual and see what the normal diagnostic procedure is for this code.
