In geometry and trigonometry, an angle (in full, plane angle) is the figure formed by two rays sharing a common endpoint, called the vertex of the angle (Sidorov 2001). The magnitude of the angle is the "amount of rotation" that separates the two rays, and can be measured by considering the length of circular arc swept out when one ray is rotated about the vertex to coincide with the other (see "Measuring angles", below). Where there is no possibility of confusion, the term "angle" is used interchangeably for both the geometric configuration itself and for its angular magnitude (which is simply a numerical quantity). The word angle comes from the Latin word angulus, meaning "a corner". The word angulus is a diminutive, of which the primitive form, angus, does not occur in Latin. Cognate words are the Latin angere, meaning "to compress into a bend" or "to strangle", the Greek ἀγκύλος (ankylοs), meaning "crooked, curved," and the English word "ankle." All three are connected with the Proto-Indo-European root *ank-, meaning "to bend" or "bow" (Slocum 2007). Euclid defines a plane angle as the inclination to each other, in a plane, of two lines which meet each other, and do not lie straight with respect to each other. According to Proclus an angle must be either a quality or a quantity, or a relationship. The first concept was used by Eudemus, who regarded an angle as a deviation from a straight line; the second by Carpus of Antioch, who regarded it as the interval or space between the intersecting lines; Euclid adopted the third concept, although his definitions of right, acute, and obtuse angles are certainly quantitative. Q. Sound exits a diffraction horn loudspeaker through a rectangular opening like a small doorway. Such a loudspeaker is mounted outside on a pole. In winter, when the temperature is 273K, the diffraction angle has a value of 15 degrees. What is the diffraction angle for the same sound on a summer day when the temperature is 311K? Asked by Lindsey - Wed Jul 1 21:48:15 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. The diffraction angle is not dependent on the temperature of air, so most likely no change in the angle. An aquarium filled with water has flat glass sides whose index of refraction is 1.56. A beam of light from outside the aquarium strikes the glass at a 43.5 (degree) angle to the perpendicular . the angle of this light ray when it enters the glass= 26.2degrees Questions: What is the angle of the light ray when it enters the waterE What would be the refracted angle if the ray entered the water directly? Q. i still dont understand this? What does the high angle of attack have to do with the engine? my instructor keeps says it loses lift but i dont understand why it makes it stall? does engine failure practice also make plane stall? Asked by anne - Fri Jul 10 22:32:44 2009 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments A. Your wing does not produces enough lift because there is too much resistance in the airflow of the airfoil of the aircraft that means that the relative wind is like hitting a big wall unlike if you have a lower angle of attack the relative wind flows smoothly Answered by edge - Sat Jul 11 10:31:19 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "angle" |
