A. A number of hotel chains do this. Choice hotels has bought out Sleep Inns which is my personal favorite. They handle others as well. Louisville, KY has a Value Place minimum - one week Open 6310 Commerce Park Court Louisville, KY 40219 Call for Reservations: 502-367-6833 Click here to place a reservation E-Mail: sdf40219@valueplace.com Expedia also has access to some weekly apartments. Check the grocery store for a booklet or flyer for the local apartment locator services.

A. Here are some good sites, just select the arrondissements you want: when you are asked to select a region, select Ile de France, then narrow down to Paris and then the arrondissements. You should also check the 4th and 5th arrondissements. Some parts of the 7th can be quite isolated from anything interesting. You'll have no problem finding something if you are willing to pay that much (2000 euros/week!). Accomodation in Paris is far more affordable than that (unless you are looking for luxury of course). Enjoy your stay!

Moving to Australia....Is the rates listed weekly not monthly for rent?
Q. I just read that Australia rent is listed differently: Why list weekly rent/lease rates opposed to monthly? Are apartments then leased out in weekly increments? Or is this Australia's way to list a weekly amount...i saw rent in Melbourne for $450--i assumed that was for a month. Is this weekly..will it state how much rent is whether monthly vs. weekly? Rent in Chicago for a month, is listed per month, as leases are for usually prearranged month increments...Any direction out of my confusion (or misunderstanding:)?? I am looking to find a place to live and breathe as a local in either Sydney or Melbourne by this time next year...thanks!
Asked by Sassy143 - Fri Jun 6 18:44:42 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It is per week, then your 'bond' or 'security deposit' is 4 x $450 which is held by an independent mob, not the landlord, you will sign a minimum 6 month lease and will have to be two weeks rent in advance ie, when you move in you are really up for 6 x $450, (bond plus 2 weeks in advance) then you will have to have all your electricity/gas turned on, the electricity company may ask you for $100 security deposit and there are connection fees for phones usually, when you move out the same 'Condition Report' you moved in on checked and any damage is deducted from your Bond, if you agree.

Where can I find a listing of weekly rental apartments / hotels?
Q. This is the one thing which the internet does not seem to list. I'm interested in a rate of $18-28 per night or so, which is more like an SRO and not a regular motel or hotel. More specifically, I'm looking for listings in Philly and Jersey, or close to there. These types of places are more common in some areas than others, but the internet will not help me on this one is what it seems. I've googled "Weekly rental apartments (city name), SRO's in (city name), "weekly hotels..." ... and so on. Very limited results, except San Francisco gave some meaningful hits.

A. There are a few hostels in the Portland area as well. There is one on Hawthorne Blvd in SE Portland and one in NW Portland on 18th and Glisan. Both are fairly accessible to public transportation if you need it, and are located in some cool areas of Portland to go exploring in. Enjoy!

6 month lease but pay weekly?
Q. Our apartment is basically the upstairs in an old house. The tenant downstairs seems to complain a lot over nothing. First it was that my phone conversations were too loud, then it was the dog was making noise (not barking, just "making noise", whatever that means), then it was the dog's chain on the steps was keeping him awake (she goes out on her chain in the yard at intervals but is mostly in the house with us), then it was the dog was running around at night and THAT was keeping him awake. The lanlord said everytime the guy comes to pay (it's weekly for some reason), he complains about something. A. If you have a fixed term 6 month written lease, then the landlord would have to give you proper notice to cure the breach, noise, and then evict you through the courts. The landlord cannot just kick you out in a week, even though that is how often you pay rent because your lease is for a 6 month term. Evicting a tenant over noise is no easy task because it is very hard to prove. What some people consider excessive noise can, in reality, be the sounds of normal living in an apartment building.

We eloped when we went on vacation and I assumed we could just stay with my parents since I'm 19 and I was staying with them before I got married. Now, we have to stay at a shabby boarding house and the only privacy we get is in our bedroom and the people who stay there are a total nightmare. They get into constant fights over stupid things and get angry when my husband and I want our privacy. A. Yes, it will get better, but only if you accept the situation you are in. When the both of you get a little bit older, things will fall into place. It's always hard in the beginning...especially when you have nothing to begin with. When both of you are working and can afford better accommodation things will improve. I wouldnt think about having children right now, not until you can both get on your feet. You eloped and you didnt think of the future...but if you love him and he loves you then you will work through this. This is only a temporary situation and I am sure if you and your husband dont like where you are living then you will both make plans to get something better for yourselves. It's only early stages, give it some time... [cont.]

A. My limited experience with people from northern Maine is that no, they're not all there mentally. Maine also prides itself on having a 'simple' way of life. On the other hand, considering that there's not much up in northern Maine, there's not exactly a huge wave of migration where they would need info to be available to the entire world. Try picking up the phone and actually calling someone.

Furnished Suites in Houston and Austin, TX?
Q. Anybody knows of any furnished suites/apartments in Houston and Austin, TX? I need to stay there for a month or so, but I am looking for something cheaper than, say, Residence Inn, Extended Stay America, Oakwood, Hawthorn Suites, AmeriSuites, Candlewood Suites, etc. I am looking for something along the lines of "Budget Suites of America" [www.budgetsuites.com] where they have a weekly rate of about $199.00 in Dallas and San Antonio, TX. Any Texas natives know of anything like that? Something that isn't a big, expensive hotel chain? Preferably not infested with roaches/rodents or in a rough neighborhood... And yes, I'm checking Craigslist every day. Thanks!!

Looking for guidance on my defaulted student loans.?
Q. When I graduated high school I enrolled for college the following fall. Unable to rely on either of my parents for any financial assistance with my schooling, I took out roughly $13k in student loans. Long story short, I wasn't responsible as I should of been and didn't take college seriously enough as I should. In what was supposed to be the start of my junior year, my financial aid advisor told me i was $5k short of paying for that year's tuition. I had no choice but to enter the 'real world' and get a job. I found a very good paying job at the time and decided to pursue that rather than my education. Like many others, I have been laid off from my job since then. At the time, I owed approximately $13k in student loans when I was… [cont.]

A. Unfortunately, the time to deal with them would have been way back when you missed the first payment. At that point, you could have applied for and probably would have received either an administrative forbearance or an economic hardship deferment. If you had not been delinquent before you lost your job, there is also an unemployment deferment available. All of these statuses allow you to put off making payments on the principal of your loan for a period of time. Now that you're in default status, there's not much you can do. The 9-month payoff plan is actually very reasonable, considering that if you default on credit card debt it stays on your credit record for 7 years even after you pay it off. Again unfortunately, no one is going… [cont.]

A. I would consider moving. The landlord knows he can rent your apartment in a snap. He obviously sees your "sensitive" neighbors as a better investment. Sounds like he is making some good money by allowing people to move in over the complaining neighbors knowing they will not be able to deal with it and move, probably losing their deposits in the process. What a scam. When you rent you are a temporary financial investor in the property owner's dwelling. He has nothing to offer for that huge investment but a decent place to live with compatible tenants. When he doesn't offer even that you are wasting your money while increasing his profits. You might consider renting a small house or duplex for your family and pet if you are able. When… [cont.]

Should Churches be aiding and betting illegals?
Q. The Mormon Church is one of the fastest-growing denominations in the country, and much of that growth is coming from an unlikely source: Latino immigrants. Latinos overwhelmingly are raised Catholic, but the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is aggressively reaching out to them by touting the religion's heavy focus on family and community, pillars of the Mormon faith that are also at the center of Hispanic culture. As a result, Latinos are joining the Mormon Church at a greater rate than members of any ethnic group, even Anglos, church leaders say. I need accommodation for 5 weeks in Hobart?
Q. I will be coming to Hobart for 5 weeks in October and needed to find accommodation to stay during that time. Renting an apartment is not an option because the stay is too short. I thought maybe a hotel would give a favourable weekly rate. I don't have an open wallet so was looking to pay around $200 a week maximum. The accommodation doesn't have to be in the CBD itself, the surrounding suburbs like North Hobart would suit me fine. I like to walk so staying in the surrounding suburbs wouldn't bother me too much. Anybody have an suggestions? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If anybody knows a hotel/guesthouse or whatever that offer good weekly rates let me know.
