An army (from Latin armata "armed (things)" via Old French armée, "armed" (feminine), in the broadest sense, is the land-based Military of a nation. It may also include other branches of the military such as the air force via means of aviation corps. Within a national military force, the word Army may also mean a field army, which is an operational formation, usually made up of one or more corps.

A standing army is an army composed of full-time career soldiers who 'stand over', in other words, who do not disband during times of peace. They differ from army reserves who are activated only during such times as war or natural disasters.

In several countries the army is officially called the land army to differentiate it from an air force called the air army, notably France. In such countries, the word "army" on its own retains its connotation of a land force in common usage. The current largest army in the world by number of active troops is the People's Liberation Army of China with 2,250,000 active troops and 800,000 reserve personnel.

By definition, irregular military is understood in contrast to regular armies which grew slowly from personal bodyguards or elite militia.

How much stronger will I get? I currently bench press about 235lbs. How much will I be able to lift when I become army strong? Will army strength also increase my speed?

A. The best bet is to join up and let the experts who wear the smokie bear hats assist however if you are a do it yourself-er: Get out of bed at 0345, brush your teeth, make your bunk and clean your house. take off on a pre dawn run 2 to 4 miles in length with at least 2 hills. after cool down , do push-ups till you achieve muscle failure Roll over and do sit-ups until you reach muscle failure. Run to the kitchen and allow yourself 11 minutes to choke down your food. allow yourself 18 minutes to shower, change into your work apparel and clean up your shower. Have your boss inspect your manner of dress and point out any flaws Run to work. Every time you make a minor mistake at work, knock out 20 push-ups as a reminder not to make the same… [cont.]

What do yall think about this the army is getting rid of the army reserves in 2013?
Q. I am in the army(active) and my close friend is in the reserves for the army and there saying that in 2013 the reserves will be no more and it will be all active duty what do you think about this?
Asked by Dhalton M - Thu Jul 23 12:55:33 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Your friend received some bad information. The Army reserve (and all the other reserve branches too) are not going away. What is happening with the Army is congress is authorizing their strength be increased by 22,000 soldiers to fight in Afghanistan. As things settle down around the world, congress will reduce the active duty forces.

How does the Salvation Army know that the ones who open the "bell ringer" pots are not stealing money?
Q. Every day this time of year the Salvation Army has people opening thousands of those red donation containers all throughout the U.S.A how do they know that the people opening those containers are not pocketing money ? Are they on camera? Is there more then one person there? OH a lock on the bucket ! that answers my question exactly ! Please re read the question.

A. There is a lock on the kettle (the correct term for the "pot") and the bell ringers and their supervisor do not have a key. The kettles are returned to the Corps (Salvation Army's term for "church") and put into a locked and monitored room until counting time. There are always at least two unrelated persons, who are well known to the The Salvation Army officer in charge, who open and count the money. Often counting requires 5 or more people all working together and accountable to each other. Coin counting is usually done by machines. More and more we see checks and now some Salvation Army stands are taking secure credit card donations. If you want to be very secure, go to and make your donation by credit card online. The donation always… [cont.]
