How do I find an attorney willing to do pro bono work?
Q. I am looking for a family lawyer in Tulsa that is willing to work on my case pro bono. If you are an attorney in the area and willing, email me we can talk. Thanks. treecemoore at yahoo. The local bar association does not work like that.

A. You can contact the county bar association there. But it is not at all likely that you will find one, unless it's quite a special and especially worthy case.

How do I find an attorney to get my money back from a breeder that sold me a sick animal that died?
Q. I paid alot of money for an English Bulldog. 4 days after getting the dog, it died. I had an autopsy done which said it was from heart failure. The breeder thinks I did something to it, and I think she sold me a dog with a bad heart. She won't refund money or offer a replacement. How do I find an attorney that specializes in these matters?

A. You don't need an attorney, you can file in small claims court and present your case yourself. If you were to get an attorney, you'd probably pay more in attorney fees then you would get back and it wouldn't be worth it. You can take copies of the autopsy and any another facts/info you have to court and present them to the judge. You can read more about state laws that protect purchasers of pets here:

What sort of job would an attorney be able to have besides working for a pracitce?
Q. I am going into my third year as an undergrad student, and I'll be graduating with a degree in biology. I'm weighing out my options for grad school, and I'm considering law. The only thing is, I wouldn't want to work for a private practice because career wise that's not where I would see myself. I'd like to apply my knowledge of the sciences as an attorney. Is it possible to do this anywhere?

A. Patent law maybe? Often they work directly for a single company rather than as a private practice attorney.

Lawyers are people who practice law. In most countries, lawyers enter their profession through a period of specialized study. Lawyers are a frequent target of criticism, in part because they are often the public face of unscrupulous parties such as persons being tried for crimes, because they employ a specialized jargon which makes it difficult for persons without a legal education to receive the benefits of the legal system without hiring a lawyer, and because they make up a disproportionate percentage of politicians.

  • Is it not remarkable that the common repute which we all give to attorneys in the general is exactly opposite to that which every man gives to his own attorney in particular? Whom does anybody trust so implicitly as he trusts his own attorney? And yet is it not the case that the body of attorneys is supposed to be the most roguish body in existence?
  • [Lawyers] can make the worse appear the better cause, as though they were fresh from Leontine schools, and have been known to wrest from reluctant juries triumphant verdicts of acquittal for their clients, even when those clients, as often happens, were clearly and unmistakably innocent.
