What baby oil should i use for newborn baby's head?
Q. I am expecting my baby in another 4 weeks and busy wrapping up all the shopping. I am planning to use Olive oil for body massage. Can anyone of you suggest what I should be using for baby's head? Is olive oil safe to use or is there any other oil that is advisable for baby's head. Thanks for your help!

Can my baby corn snake eat a baby lizard from outside?
Q. I just found a baby lizard in my kitchen and i caught it. I was wondering if it would be okay to feed it to my baby corn snake (13 inches long)? I know in the wild baby corns do eat small lizards, etc. My only concern is if any parasites can be transmitted?

A. My daughter volunteers at a local reptile rescue center and one of the first things she learned was it's never a good idea to feed a pet reptile any live prey from outside. You don't know what they have been exposed to...chemicals, parasites, etc...

How do I get one baby rabbit to stay with the other four babies in the nest box?
Q. Our rabbit had five babies together, all in the nest box. Four of the babies are staying together in the next box, in the hollow dug out by their mom, but one baby keeps crawling out and across the nest box, away from the other babies. How to I keep them together?
Asked by nicolee52 - Sun Jun 15 22:44:49 2008 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments

A. This depends on how old they are. If they are 10 days or older, they are probably OK out of the nest box, and mom will sometimes put them back in. If not, you need a taller rim ( mine is usually 4-6 in) on the opening to the box. In other words, it should be deeper. I hope that makes sense. Also, add hay or a mat outside the box to prevent exposure if he jumps out again.

How grandmother may help a baby if his mom is treating baby not good?
Q. There was a lot of thing what this mom shouldn't do with that baby. Grandma tried a lot of ways to change it. She was kindly talking to that mom, she was keeping eye and tried to prevent a lot of things. For example 2 weeks baby shouldn't sleep on the stomach or baby shouldn't be tightly enveloped in a flannel diaper too long and so go on. How to do this all: to avoid conflicts and do not hurt feelings of young mom and to help baby?

A. I think you need to understand the difference between offering tips and advice and demanding they be accepted and implemented. As with any new thing we do in life those that have experience offer advice. However these bits of information come from many people (all with good intentions) and it is up to the person doing the learning to decide what is important to them. Keep up the good work Grandma but let the new parents decide.

How it identify a baby sparrow verses a baby finch?
Q. I have a nest of 5 babies that are around 5-7 days old that I rescued. They were nesting in a friend's horse trailer that left the area and can not be returned home to parent birds sadly. They babies are in good hands as I have fed many baby birds with success but these are hard to identify being so so young and featherless. Any sure fire ways of telling this young? I can also use the nest to identify.
Asked by tarabean7 - Mon Jul 20 16:03:08 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can't really tell until it is older, in about a week. When that happens, the sparrow should be getting darker colors and a few streaks of gray on its head. The finch, (depending one what kind) will get some feathers of brown and other streaks of color.

How much cereal or baby food should my six month old baby be eating?
Q. I just recently got my baby to start eating cereal. She used to keep spitting it out. She still will not eat baby food. I'm worried that she is too dependant on formula. How do I correct this and how do I ensure she is getting enough food and nutrition? How much baby food and cereal should she be eating at six months of age? Any advice is appreciated.
Asked by Natosha - Thu Aug 20 20:40:26 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Damian was the same way but I understand why he didn't want cereal. Have you ever tasted that stuff? It taste like paste. I decide to make it a bit more appealing to him. I started to put smash veggies and fruits in the cereal. It work like a charm. I steam the veggies/fruit and puree, with some of the water that they were cook in. I then stir it into the cereal to a good consistency. There is no right or wrong as to how much she should be eating. Just let her eat as much as she wants, but I say make her at least 5 ounces and see how much she eats. Don't force her to eat all that you have made for her she will let you know when she is done.

What baby formula is the highest quality and best tasting on the market. Are organic formulas better?
Q. I am looking for what could be considered the "best" baby formula. The best meaning the best for the baby including ingredients, recipe, quality, and taste. Also are organic formulas that claim to not contain growth hormones, steroids, antibiotics etc actually worth it. Your opinions are appreciated. Thanks

A. I think Enfamil is good. Generic brands do have all the same ingredients as name brands but there is a difference. And formula does taste bad. I haven't really had experience with a lot of different brands but my pediatrician said they were all the same like colgate verses crest. Organics don't know. Just wanted to give my two sense about generic and name brand. Generics: the powder is clumpy, they leave a oily residue and they are yellow in color when mixed. Brand name: the powder is very fine and when they are mixed the color is white. No oily residue. I wouldn't buy generic again...

What are the benefits to having a baby sleep in your bed?
Q. I'm 33 weeks pregnant and am not planning on having my baby sleep in with us as I'm afraid I might squash the baby, the baby might fall out of the bed or the baby might get into bad habits and not want to sleep in a bed of it's own. A good point would be that you don't have to get out of bed if the baby cries, but this isn't enough to persuade me. Opinions ladies? Thanks :) x

A. I hardly ever put my baby in bed with me. Two reasons - first my husband was a wild sleeper. I was not afraid of myself rolling over on him, but my husband. Second - I would never get a good night sleep like that, I was always worried about my husband rolling over on the baby so I slept with one eye open almost. This is what I learned to do and it worked well with both of my boys. When they woke up for their feeding, I would change the diaper first, then do the feeding. Normally by the time they were done feeding, they were almost back to sleep. My little ones ate fast and the whole process took less that 20 minutes. A couple things I did do is I had the porta crib in the room with me for about 2 months then moved to his own… [cont.]

When did your baby start to make eye contact with you and track objects with their eyes?
Q. My son is 4 weeks old and still doesn't really make eye contact or hold your gaze. Most baby books say at 4 weeks old they can accomplish those tasks, but I'm not concerned. My son was 2 1/2 weeks early which makes him a little later on some milestones. And I know all babies develop at different times. How to dress baby to bring her home from the hospital in California winter?
Q. Most books, brochures, and web sites mention that babies are released from hospitals in receiving blankets. However, it is not clear how to secure baby in the car seat with 5-point harness if he/she is blanketed? We live in SF and expect to bring our baby home in January. Thank you very much!
Asked by Possum - Fri Dec 23 01:46:57 2005 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. We wrapped our baby in the receiving blanket. As you leave the hospital you have the option of having your wife hold the baby as she's wheeled out...or you can strap the baby in the car seat and put it on the wheel chair handles.. You can take another blanket and cover the entire car seat so when you transfer the baby to the car, he/she is protected from the weather. Usually, the other person (father, friend, etc) can pull the car right up to the door.

What cultural baby items would you like to see more readily on the market?
Q. I am opening a multi-cultural baby store in the near future and I am trying to get an idea of what other mums would find useful. I have a mixed race child and I found it practically impossible to find books, clothes and toys to suit. Everything was 'white' based. I wanted her to have a range of books some with children from different cultures in and baby clothes from Africa, everything was available but after hunting long and hard. What items would you like to see on the market more readily and do you think it's a good idea?
Asked by Yummy Mummy - Mon Oct 27 08:24:04 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Mothers in other countries use carriers to keep their babies close to them all day. In South Korea, they use something called a podaegi, it's like a tied wrap carrier they wear on their backs so they can keep the baby close while still going about their daily lives. It keeps the babies soothed, but let's the mom have free range of her arms. They have the Baby Bjorn carriers and such here, but they're just not the same as carriers used in other countries. They don't give you the full range of movement.

When should I start shopping for my unborn baby?

Also, how much newborn clothing should I have and how soon will the baby outgrow it? All advice appreciated.

A. congrats! what an exciting time! on a serious note, if your pregnancy were to have complications they'll most likely be during the first trimester. therefore, it may be a good idea to wait until the 2nd trimester to buy a bunch of baby things. if you cant wait to start shopping (i couldnt!)clothes are really tempting to buy , but i try to limit myself to only buying things that i think are super cute because i get so many outfits as gifts. if they're full term they only wear the newborn size for a month at the most, so its a good idea to start with the 0-3month size. you can always "shop" for the things you'd like to have by starting a gift registry. give other people the opportunity to help you celebrate your family's new edition!

When did your baby start to sleep through the night?
Q. My baby girl is only 7 weeks and we have her on an eating schedule and we have a nightly routine (feeding, bath, massage, and we read to her/sing to her). Some nights she sleeps for 4 hours, others she barely sleeps for an hour. When did your baby start sleeping through the night?
Asked by Lynh - Sat Aug 8 10:26:13 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. She slept five hours the first night home, but they made me wake her up for a month to get her weight up (which I did, WAY up). Then she went straight to sleeping 6-8 hours at one month, 8-10 at two, 10-12 at three, until she got teeth at six months and had a waking spell. Then she went back to 8-10...until her next set (four at once) of teeth at nine months when she was waking again. Now, at ten months, since she learned to crawl and stand over a month ago (and also with that teething), she is still waking just enough for me to have to give her a pacifier. I hope she goes back...I was really luck in the beginning, but I am paying for it now!

A. Around 2 months. My son is 4 months, and will turn when I call his name or make sounds "sometimes".. other times he is to focussed on other things, and not interest in turning towards momma. Have you tried making a loud sudden nose, to see if he/she startles any? If so, then he/she is hearing you... but you may still get his/her hearing checked, it won't harm anything for them to check...~
