What is your opinion on bottles for a gassy baby?
Q. In your experience, what is the best bottle for a baby that is gassy? She doesn't spit up, she just has been having some issues with gas while drinking from her bottle. It is the Soothie bottle.

A. I used VentAir with my children and it really helped with gas. It helped so much that I had to burp them less and sometimes they did not even have to. They were happier with these bottles. "Only Playtex VentAire Advanced reusable bottles have micro-channel vent technology that, unlike ordinary bottles, vents air at the back of the bottle versus through the nipple. This helps prevent air from mixing with the milk and provides a virtually bubble-free feeding. - Clinically shown to reduce gas, colic, and spit-up better than competitors* - Angled bottle supports semi-upright feeding position to help prevent ear infections - Advanced venting system designed to help liquid flow consistently - BPA-Free and Phthalate-Free**"

What formula is best when you have a gassy baby with possible acid reflux?
Q. My little girl is 5 weeks old and is gassy. She is a pretty good baby otherwise but sometimes when she spits up it comes out of her nose. Sometimes she regurgatates the bottle but very unfreqently. She also sometimes sounds like she is gurgling? She is such a good trooper though, she rarely cries at all and easts about every 3 hours. I have tried the mylicon drops and they seem to work only for a short period of time. My baby''s doctor has put her on medicaine for acid reflux and told me to switch the formula to Nutramingin. When I did this after 2 days she seemed worse than ever. I put her back on Good start but have keep her on meds. I dont know what to do with her now. A. I would suggest Enfamil Gentlease. My daughter was very gassy and this formula helped a lot. It is no more expensive than the other brands either. The pediatrician put her on soy for a while but I wasn't crazy about that (it stinks plus I read some controversial articles on soy formula being linked to ADD... don't take my word for that though... research it if you think Soy would be best of your baby). After we tried the soy I put her back on regular formula and the gas and spitting up only came back. That's when my mom happened upon the Enfamil Gentlease. We were traveling and ran out of formula. The first store we could find didn't have the regular Enfamil so we gave that a try. It worked wonders for her! I kept her on that until she was… [cont.]

Does Similac Early Shield make your baby gassy?
Q. We just had our third baby in December. My older two were on regular Similac Advance w/ iron and they were never gassy. Our new little guy has been on Early Shield and the poor thing has been so gassy, he's often uncomfortable and the gas he passes smells terrible, i'm thinking of trying him on the regular Similac. A. The idea that certain foods in any mom's diet will cause gas in her baby is incredibly persistent but is not founded in research. If certain foods in moms' diets were an overall problem for most babies, we would expect that cultures that emphasize those foods would have more gassy and fussy babies, but this does not occur at all. This is not to say that certain foods would not bother a particular baby - this does happen occasionally (and it's more likely with very young babies). However, there is no list of foods that every mom should avoid while breastfeeding. In fact, most babies are fine with any food that mom eats, so there is no reason to avoid a food unless you notice an obvious reaction in your baby every time you eat a particular… [cont.]

Which nipples are good for Gassy baby?
Q. I just bought a crosscut nipples for my baby`s bottle. When i fed her it make big bubbles in the bottle but the previous nipples made small bubbles.Because my little one is too much gassy i want to know which nipples are good for her?

A. Dr Brown's are very good (but they do cost more and are a little fiddly). Dr Brown's releases the pressure needed to suck the milk out, so you never see bubbles being released from the nipple into the bottle. However, if you use other bottles that require the baby to stop sucking a release to equalise the air in the bottle the baby may not know how to do this. Mine has forgotten as I rarely use them and so the nipple gets squashed in her mouth. No big deal I just remove it and it sorts itself out and I give it back to her.

A. It's a wives' tale. People will tell you differently because they ate broccoli (or whatever) and their baby fussed, but...babies fuss all the time, and plenty of mothers eat broccoli. If women had never heard the wives' tales, they would never think to blame the broccoli. But since they have -- "Placebo effect is the term applied by medical science to the therapeutic and healing effects of inert medicines and/or ritualistic or faith healing practices.[1][2] When referring to medicines, placebo is a preparation which is pharmacologically inert but which may have a therapeutic effect based solely on the power of suggestion. My 4-week old baby has a hard time with bowel movements, and is always gassy??
Q. I breastfeed and also supplement with formula 2-3 times a day. The formula we use is Similac sensitive for gassy babies. He always cries after a feeding as if he is in pain, and he stays fussy for about an hour. Any ideas or suggestions of why this could be and what could help??
Asked by Just A Nice Person - Sat Jan 19 01:07:30 2008 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Could be the formula; breastfed babies are pretty regular. Also, if you supplement with formula, I hope you are also pumping at least the same amount that you are feeding in formula, otherwise your milk is going to start to dry up. It's all about supply and demand, and if your baby is getting supply elsewhere, then your supply is going to diminish. For the gas, you can lay the baby on his back and "bicycle" his legs, then gently press them up (in the position you would if you were changing his diaper). That usually helped my baby. They grow out of that, usually around 3 months.

A. My son is almost 10 weeks and he was the same as your son. I had to switch him to Enfamil Gentlease. His pedi. recommended 1 tablespoon of rice cereal to every 4oz. of formula. Right now, he's eating 6oz. at a time, so I put in 1.5 tablespoons of cereal. It has helped him tremendously! He still spits up from time to time, but the gassy baby is no longer. Good Luck!

How do I sooth my gassy baby?
Q. My son is 9 days old and has bad gas. We burp him all the time and have tried the gas drops and it doesn't seem to help at all. I've also tried changing his formula (couldn't breast feed) and that hasn't seemed to help much either. I feel so bad when he screams from the gas and his little body tenses up. Are there any suggestions or tips from anyone out there?

A. Massage his belly in a clockwise motion. Do the "bicycle legs" with him (where you move his legs around like he is riding a bicycle). Burp him halfway through his feeding instead of just at the end. Burping over the shoulder is not always easiest to get gas out. Try burping him like this : sit him in your lap with your hand over his chest and supporting his head across his neck (without choking him), then pat and run his back. Make sure you are using enough force - I know he is new and you don't want to "break" him, but he can withstand the pressure. Get him on his tummy to push some of it out. When using gas drops you should give them to him at every feeding and sometimes in between, if he needs it. Continue using the gas drops - if used… [cont.]

How do I help my baby with her gassy belly?!?
Q. My 3 month old made the switch to formula a few days ago, and has been gassy and crying ever since. My husband is at the store now buying some Gentlease formula (we've been using Enfamil Lipil) and we are already using Mylicon. Is there anything else I can do to make her less miserable?
Asked by Object Permanence - Fri May 1 16:40:24 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I used enfamil gentlease and ovol drops for my gassy boy. The formula helped ALOT, and we used the drops in all the nighttime bottles to reduce wakes ups due to gas. If you cant afford the expensive gentlease use the walmarter PC version PC Gentle, its about 10 bucks cheaper and a slightly larger can... When it gets really bad try gripe water and bicycling the legs to release the gas One trick that works is sleeping on their stomach, but some parents just arent comfortable doing that. it helps at night at least.

Q. It seema like I'm useless to my son. He is almost three months and is gassy and colicky. At times, I feel like running out of my house. I give him malicon drops and it seems to help for a short period. I feel useless when I'm unable to ease his pain. How long do these episodes last?

A. Our son was like this- he had colic for 18 hours a day- and was in the hospital twice because he was sweating and not taking his formula. I decided any child after him would be breastfed- and have. What did I do? My husband worked 12 hour days and most of them were nights. It was hard. 1. dancing. we discovered by accident that he loved music and celine dion...I didn't care for her-but borrowed my aunt's cd's and danced with him...it was a relief for both of us. 2. when you feel frustrated, put your baby down in a safe place for a time...a crib, a swing, etc. and leave him be. 3. Mylicon didn't work for us either...he was relieved for all of 10 minutes on it...we stopped giving it to him. 4. take your baby outside- the fresh air helps. [cont.]

can iron in formula make baby gassy?
Q. My 2 week old newborn has been having really bad gas pains at night time, she is on similac advance formula with iron. Could the iron in the formula be making her gassy and giving her the pains?
Asked by kaylee's mommy - Sun Apr 19 01:11:24 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That can definitely be a huge possibility. The similac advance with iron was way too harsh and strong for my baby, so her doctor switched us to Isomol that's soy based formula, and that made a huge difference. Could be she needs something a little gentler, also mylicon gas drops are great too. I would check with your doctor about that too. Congrats and best of luck!

My gassy baby needs help. What can I eat?
Q. My baby is gassy and fussy. Cutting out certain foods to see what might be bothering her seems like a shot in the dark. Since she is really uncomfortable, I want to speed up the process. I m going to try a basic diet and am looking for recommendations, not on what to avoid, but what to eat. I plan to start by eating brown rice and nuts, but know that I need to eat more than that to keep us healthy. Any suggestions on what else I can safely eat? She is 7 weeks old. No colic, just gas. Mylicon gas drops don't seem to help. To keep her from fussing I hold her bellyside down in a footbal hold and gently bounce her.
Asked by pureevilpopstar - Thu Sep 20 18:06:48 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. To be honest sounds like a normal baby. Lots of babies at that age are gassy. I don't know why... Rarely does it have to do with you breast milk. Trust me I tried. My now 3 1/2 month old doesn't have the same gas problem and I sure eat just like I did when she was 6 weeks. If you want to give it a shot the most likely offender is Milk/dairy. Others are caffeine, chocolate, onion and cabbage maybe broccoli. But personally I think it will go away on its own. We used Gripe water once in a while. It seemed to help us a bit.

A. I wouldn't think so...I'd think it might be if it was the other way around, if you were to go from organic to regular baby food...as regular baby food can have all kind of extra additives in it that the baby's system isn't used to.

A. My baby had really, REALLY bad screaming fits when she had gas or pooped. People tried to tell me it was colic, but it ONLY occurred during poop and gas so I knew it was probably diet related. Since I was breastfeeding, I cut the dairy out of my diet and that seemed to solve the problem. When I did consume dairy and nurse, I would give her Mylicon preventatively. Once I started using formula, the problem resumed so I switched to a lactose-free formula and she's been fine ever since.
